Yeah, shitcan the electric part, bolt the brand to something you can get a good grip on and get it cherry hot with a torch, then it’s all about practicing how long/hard to press it

Do you have a harbor frieght nearby?
    Laser thermometer are cheap there.
If it glows it is way to hot. Just barely changing from the matte/shine of the cold metal to the dancing hint of color change is about where mine is ready.

I was thinking there doesn't seem to be any reason I can't just use a regular torch on it to heat it up. There's nothing in the instructions suggesting I can't, but I'll look some more first before I try it in case I'm missing something.

Used a propane torch and got a lazer thermometer. Its over 500 degrees now. I think the walnut is my best one yet. I used the wet cloth on all 3. Getting better.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
On the "burnt" ones, try sanding lightly until it comes back

Ok it looks like the turtle is transferring more heat to the wood than the letters. Maybe heat the hole thing and give a little extra to the outside ring.

It looks like a good turtle leaves a faint name, and a good name leaves a burnt turtle.

since the turtle seems to be holding more heat, id run torch on the letters in circular motion then heat the turtle less time than the letters. I noticed on brass it heats up pretty quick on mine.

On my stainless steel one it takes more time to heat the letters/middle than the letters.

I think I'll just be looking for a marking laser. These look like a lot of work... damn :(

They do take some troubleshooting but when you get the formula down they do really well. Better if you cant afford a laser or if you arent branding too much stuff and the cost/benefit isnt worth it

The guy whose woodshop I work in says he attacks his to the drill press. The end piece is removable, so I'm wondering if it would work to try putting the end in there for a nice even press. Tomorrow. :)
