We used to put the ones with goofy options or models that were hard to sell in the showroom. Either that or they'd become service loaners and then CPO's. They're always someone who wants one off the showroom floor. However, those ones usually have the most wear and tear from people and kids climbing in and out of them and wiping their boogers all over the vehicle.

What isn't immediately apparent is how many brand new units the dealer is able to sell because of the number of highly intelligent buyers that refuse to be taken advantage of by the dealer..."I ain't paying that much for that used truck! You have a brand new SR5 on the lot marked $48,000 on the windshield, sell me that or I walk!"

not THAT much...I went to kbb and put as many options as I could...it gave me a value of 52k max for a trd pro. dealerships always seem to add 2k to the blue book price lately. I couldn't spend that much on a v6 truck though. In 2020 I spent like 29k for my trd offroad 4x4, it was 3 years old and had 40k? and I still felt like I paid too much but that was actually a little less than what blue book was.

exactly. there's the 'priced to sell' price, and there's the 'i guess it's for sale if ya really want it' price.

for instance, both of my vehicles are 100% for sale for a non-negotiable $500,000 each, all of the time. first buyer with cash walks away with the vehicle of their choosing as-optioned, accessories and junk on the passenger seat included.

Exactly. I'd be shocked if any transactions ever happen.

Thought I'd sell mine in no time- stock, new frame, well-maintained, and under book value. I mentioned in the ad that I was considering donating it to charity if nobody bought it. (Mind you- it booked for 12k). The only interest I got was from some guy who said, "if you decide to donate it to charity, let me know, and I'll give you a couple thousand for it." :jpow:

Yes you can build a 23 and get an MSRP price from Toyotas website, but finding a dealer who can actually get that truck and sell it for the same price is a different story. Mandatory add-ons, extended warranties, etc are all at a dealers discretion. Dealerships are the gatekeepers, and set whatever prices the market will bear. There are more customers than new trucks so when the market starts shifting, so will dealers. It takes a lot of work to get a “deal” .

I get the shivers thinking about what the first round of 4th gens will sell for once they get announced and start trickling in.
