    That's pretty cool.

I don't think our guy charged extra, just that we went there for most all work and inspections. Pretty fair deal all around, I think.

Even though most of my area was solidly domestic car country, everyone loved Bugs. My folks had one for a while. It was a short lived project car. I can't remember why they got rid of it, but my dad wasn't into intense wrenching. Mainly oil changes, tire rotations, and lubing. I freaked the fam out went I started doing the brakes. Hahaha!

There was an orange Thing sitting on a used lot that we would drive past at least one a month. I think they wanted about $3k for it? Tried every way possible to land that puppy. The day that I saw that it was gone . . . :pout:

Turnabout is fair play though. Our youngest is in love with New Beetles. 1st Gen only. She's having to make due with our Forester XT. Thankfully doing well with it.

Never had an issue with getting mine inspected in NC. Although, I think it is technically somewhere in the law that the bumpers can be no more than "x" inches higher or lower than the factory height.

Never seen anyone pulling a tape to measure it tho lol.

Maybe just go to another inspection station? The garage I use doesn't even look at the vehicle. You walk in with your registration and mileage written down, they click a few buttons, tell you the fee, print out the paper and send ya out the door lol.

Most definitely. Getting happier to be going slower these days. There are times that I bounce back and forth between Miata and Beetle dreams. A couple years back, a guy had a Super Beetle of some sort that we was willing to sell. It was hard to stay away from it.

My folks' one was the same color.

Had been working on a Chop for a few years with it, got it from Texas so it was rust free.

You can usually get a state inspector or whatever to sign off on the frame. I cant recall the process but many people build their own frames and have them inspected and signed off for road-worthiness. Common with hot-rodders and stuff that do significant frame repairs.

There are laws here in WA about producing specialty, road-legal vehicles. I believe that mileage is limited though and insurance might be different? Certainly if the OP's state allows a road-worthy inspection, it may affect the title and bring up other issues like insurance, or worse if a bank actually owns that Taco.

I have an idea. This may or may not help . Try to contact the manufacturer. Maybe they can issue a certificate . They can’t be selling those to your state without some kind of disclaimer that it won’t pass inspection. I see a potential lawsuit here . Worth a shot

A lot of stuff like that is often sold as off road / competition only. Very few mod parts have DoT cert. Usually in small print.

There are times when I wish WA had an inspection. Just min tread depth, brake material thickness, and lights. Something that any monkey could or should do, but don't. We have some real rolling jalopies here.

Of course, they'd screw it up and add a bunch of crap. That said, somehow they wound down the emissions check program. That one blows my mind.
