I got my current helmet (Arai RX-Q) in 2015 or 2016. How often are we supposed to replace them?

EDIT: Website says every 5 years based on Snell guidance.

Replacement for me depends more on actual usage. How many days was it in use? How many hours and miles? Ever been dropped?

My Shoei Neotech is around 7 years now but I installed all new replacement chin pads and top pad 2 years ago. I start considering replacement when it's no longer a snug fit. When it just pops on and off with no real effort and I can turn it some on my head it's time to start shopping.

Never been dropped or crashed and it still fits well. It sat for a couple of years total due to deployments. I also used to live in Alaska where it saw only seasonal use.

Might could use it another year or two. Replacement in kind is about $900 so if I can make it last I will. Next time the weather is crap I'll take it apart and wash the pads and check everything out.

    Hey all,

Been crazy getting ready for track days. Got 6 days so far thru Evolve and PRE. This shit is getting expensive though, even with searching out deals. I just found a set of Woodcraft rearsets on EBay for $244.

If anyone is familiar with the racing license process I could use help. I joined WERA and AMA but I have not found a licensing process yet I can follow. Track days are fun, but I want to do a race or 2.

Got the bike looking good i think.

I took this class back in the day. It was worth it and you are certified afterwards.

you can join the Wera forum affectionately known as the BEEB. https://forums.13x.com/index.php understand, you need a thick skin, and read the rule book, and use the search function, or be prepared for the boards wrath. :D

really, there are a lot of great people, and knowledgeable people that will help. most have known each other through the board, or through racing for a loooooooong time. there is s section there for new racers, that will be your first stop.

to race wera, you will have to do the "race school" which they have the day before, a race weekend, or the morning of the first day of the race weekend. or you can use Sportbike Track Time's "pro day" prior to some wera events, that acts as your race school.

soak it up, enjoy your track days, and racing. nothing like racing, competing with others, yourself, and the clock, to better yourself as a rider, and a person. good luck to you! Ski

The roads they call "technical" though  I need an ADV bike now so I can be dumb and push it's limits.

I imagine for you they would be easy. I think they're just local country roads, from what i saw. You can ADV with the DRZ. Dont need full luggage Even Im trying to keep things light.

I know I can, the guy that I bought mine from did the TAT on it. But the DRZ is NOT comfortable on the highway. Ideally the only adv bike I would want is a T7 all day.

For small things like this I’m actually a fan of molle bags. I’m usually not a fan of things looking too tacticool but you can’t beat the utility and the mounting options for the price. Plus replacing them is cheap down the line if you need to. My only gripe is that most cheap molle bags aren’t uv stable so they fade if exposed to the sun and it makes them look even cheaper.

Getting the actual race license is very simple, the steps are more involved getting there. To obtain the license you are essentially doing a mock race and DONT CRASH.

I am not a racer, just track day junkie and know how costly it can get, racing is not going to be any cheaper, in fact a lot more $. If you wanted to try a race, certain organizations do have mock races at the end. I've yet to do one, they are very dangerous as is racing. All the nice rules of TD's usually go out out the window for passing on straits, inside passing, flagging people for riding too aggressive. Starting on a twin is probably a better approach over the 600cc class which is very competitive.

    I run this one:

    https://publiclandriders.com/products/black-medium-bar-bag

Super happy with it, can have my phone in one pocket and keep my factory tool kit in the larger pocket. Can easily fit more than that though, stuffed my balclava in there. I also am strapping more shit to it like my saw for trail maintenance.

I originally wanted one of these but they were sold out at the time:

Thanks those look nice... and yes planning to put the tool kit in there too since there isn't a spot for it under the seat.
