Actually, for 3 months we lived in a city back east where they did have milk delivery in glass bottles. That was a big deal for my mom, because by those days milk out west was in cardboard cartons, and Mom was buying it at the Air Force commissary.

I spent most of my early life on the Canadian border and I remember eating lots of G.I. hamburger and frozen vegetables. My parents thought that was a big deal because before I was 6 it was all canned vegetables.

For a brief time we lived in Cayucos California, where fresh vegetables were widely available all year. Moving north to Washington changed that.

Yes, and you can see the hole for the missing vent hose on the drivers side. What’s hard to notice is the pop rivets where we put aluminum plate where the battery was, and moved the radiator support back towards the engine. This was a V-8.

But it had no pto, no winch, no posi-traction, and no off-road gears. Dad bought it for the body.

We swapped his rusted body onto the V8 chassis and sold it, and put a nice Arizona V8 body on the four-cylinder (with all the gear.)

That engine was left sitting by my father and it’s likely been frozen for over 30 years. In 2003 I put some Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinders, and tried repeatedly to turn it over.

It wouldn’t budge, so I just filled the cylinders with oil, and put the spark plugs back in. I wasn’t worried, because I have a spare engine. (Thanks, Dad.)

I took one plug out with my fingers recently. It still had a little oil on it. I will probably try to rebuild this engine rather than swap in the spare engine, as it has unknown mileage. It still spins fine.

My plan has been to put this vehicle back on the road, as an off-road vehicle only. It’s only geared to run 55 miles an hour at 3800 RPM. You can run it at 60 but the exhaust will start to glow.

It was a pretty good crawler in it’s day.

It’s been on non-op for ~40 years now!

I was looking at live surf cams the internet the other day.

It reminded me of when I used to call telephone surf lines before we went to the beach when I was a kid. I think it cost $0.50 and my parents blew a gasket when they got the phone bill.

My dad told me a story long ago of how cheap his father was, said he'd keep an empty milk bottle to tinkle in versus turn the heat up more.

I had a 30 sided in grade school. Pretty sure my friend had a 100 side.

80a chassis with 800 body. The 80 body was actually cooler with the folding windshield.

I remember my stepdad sending me to the corner gas station with a quarter and it filled a gallon can.

    Yep. That old LOL

I remember looking at pics of girls and not wondering if that's a shadow or an Adam's apple. I would hate to be in the dating scene today.

I had a next door Neighbor who was a year younger we hung around till I was like 14 (1970) then went different ways

Fast forward like 35 years (2005 ?) . If She would not have told me I would have never thought that was my former best friend Tom now Tammy .

We crossed paths at her Mom`s funeral.
