Leaf pack advice

Hence why I recommended this pack. Lifts about 1.7".

Had the RXT before and it was way too stiff and lifted much higher than advertised. This pack is much better in every way if you aren't going to load the bed down with 100s of lbs regularly.

 

You currently run the Deaver J66 pack? If so how much weight have you added to your truck?

 

Just read your build thread. You had quite the journey getting to where you are at now. From the sounds of it the J66 leaf packs will be a good fit for me since we are similar in weight added. Although your custom valved adjustable shocks may help a lot with that.

 

Works well for my needs. I carry a decent amount of weight frequently. Tools, construction supplies, etc. but knowing this, I did not aim to level my truck. Some rake is a necessity if you’re going to put some weight in the bed and don’t want to be squatting.

 

The shocks are nice but they're a little on the stiff side still tbh. Doing the Hammer Hangers soon to see if the ride quality difference is as great as they say before I send the rears back for a third revalve. They should pair very nicely with the eibachs.

 

I’m on deaver u402’s stage 1’s. I do have an alucab canopy and always have 4 traction boards in the bed. Love the way it rides and was a huge improvement over stock leafs and blocks and the icon 3 leaf aal.

How did it ride with just the tonneau cover?

 

I called Deaver today and they said both the J66 & U402 will work for my needs. Unfortunately they did not make it easier for me to decide. Although they did say that the J66 would feel a bit smoother for daily driving while the U402 would handle more offroad and take more abuse.

 

I have to start researching u-bolt flip kits & bump stops. The options are endless and I'm hoping to only have to do this once. I guess it's not as simple as just getting new leafs.

 

I only hunt and mud occasionally. I bet the J66 would be better....maybe? LOL it's so difficult to decide, but fun to read about.

 

honestly I couldn’t tell the difference when I swapped on the canopy. Canopy only weighs 125 lbs. I love the u402’s after removing the 3 leaf aal it was a huge change. I’ve had multiple people comment on how good the truck rides.

 

Accutune has a Deaver N98 as well. It's advertised as a 2" lift and designed for empty to no bed cargo.

 

Does anyone know if the TRD pro rear shocks can handle a 2" lift? I would hate to install the new leafs only to find it it handles worse because the shocks can't handle that much of a lift.

 

Technically yes. They will simply be limited for down travel as a negative.

Once loaded it will be in the optimal 0-1" range.

Ideally once the fox's are worn you should get longer shocks. But I'd leave them.

 

Thanks for the response. I want to keep the stock shocks until they're worn out. I just don't wan't to sacrifice ride quality for it. Any Pro owners have a 2" rear lift with the stock shocks?

 

Thanks for the recommendation. Ended up going with the J66 and my initial impressions are good. They seen to handle the normal everyday bumps in the road a lot better. Only have a few miles on them so far (just got them installed today) but I can tell already it's a big improvement from the stock packs with 1" blocks. Doing an off-road Death Valley trip in march to give them a real test.

 

This is awesome to hear. I'm glad they're working out for you. I'm still liking mine very much also. Hoping I will like them even more after the Hammer Hangers go in soon

 

I hope you won't mind me tacking onto this thread.
For those running the J66, can they still handle occasional weight in the bed? For example if I needed to throw 300-400lbs of stuff in there for a short trip, would I be on the bump stops?
I like the idea of a softer ride for daily driver use, but the capacity and losing the overload spring is a concern. (Yes, I realize everything is a compromise.) Would adding a better bump stop setup help in those situations?
