Just installed the ICON rear leaf springs on my 2018 TRD PRO and noticed the factory FOX 2.5 TRD tuned shocks are blown. Does anyone have any info on getting them rebuilt in socal, or where to get a kit and tooling to rebuild them myself.

Fox moved their Truck service center to Baxter, MN. You’ll have to ship them to that facility and back but they can do a service on them.

Fox’s El Cajon facility will rebuild too. If you’re in SoCal you can just roll up and bring the shocks in person. It about 2 weeks now for turn around.

For prices. And if you’re interested at the rebuild schedule, fox says use the raptor schedule for TRD pro shocks. Prices are for internal bypass 2.5s…as that’s what the pro shocks are.

The El Cajon facility is now only for Off Road product. That facility no longer services the Pro shocks.

    That’s surprising.
I sent some JLU ones in the mail to the El cajon facility, and got them back last month…somebody is doing something there…

Interesting. 2 years ago I sent to the Minnesota location, and they sent them to El Cajon to be rebuilt.

El Cajon said they would rebuild them. But I decided to do it myself. Talked with a tech and it’s pretty straightforward on the rebuild. Plus I got a buddy with the skills on rebuilding the side by side shocks. We will see how it goes. FYI the rebuild kits, tools and oil cost me a total of 220 bucks and the oil will last for a few rebuilds.

Also FYI they sold me new caps for the bypass with Schrader valves to recharge the gas back to 80 psi. Once you have the tools and oil this will only cost you about 60 bucks for the pair to recharge and rebuild yourself.

yes, fox will rebuild them. for a price. i sent my downhill mountain bike fork there one time for service before learning how to do it myself. they require a lot of maintenance so best to learn how to do it at home without the downtown of shipping it out. it was around $150 irc. might be cheaper for vehicle shocks as they are simpler.

The cost from fox was about 86 bucks. For o-rings, IFP’s and new caps with schrader valves. but I didn’t like the IFP’s from fox because they didn’t have the extraction threads. So I went to kar-tech to get the right ones and the fox red oil.
    77 bucks IFP’s
60 bucks in oil and the tool for the top cap.

Is there a service schedule - useable lifespan for oils and seals on these things?

just got a 23’ pro and have had Tein’s rebuilt before but with more insight as to “ when. “

It really depends on how much you off road. The standard fox suggestion is every 10,000 miles but it could be sooner if you really like at high speed desert runs. If you’re getting the reservoirs hot every weekend it can shorten the oil life and seals. If you’re a go out sometimes and slow crawl around kind, they can go to about 20,000 miles. But the best performance with lots of use is going to be the 10,000. It’s really not more expensive to do them yourself even with the up front cost of extra parts, tools, and oil. I’m looking at probably 60 bucks for the pair next time I do them. My initial cost was around 230 bucks. But now the shocks are 100 % serviceable with the parts I have on, and in them. When I need to get oil again, it’s gonna be about 110 for the pair. Beats like 175 Ea. Plus shipping to fox.

I didn't realize that the recommended FOX interval was so low. I typically recommend 30k rebuild intervals for people with Tacomas who are doing light off road. I've seen 50k + intervals without issue but wouldn't recommend anyone do it.

You are correct though, the interval shortens the harder your run your truck. The longer & hotter the shock gets, the shorter the interval.

Do you have part numbers for those upgraded parts & the tool?

I thought they were nitrogen filled?
