Anyone ever had any luck trying to get a dealership to sell them a crate bike?

Or just agree to pay the "assembly" fee anyway and let them get paid for you to do the work........................or lawyers have ruined that with liability(like most things)

I might give it a try. Maybe being small town good 'ol boys will help me out. I don't think my dealer is going to charge assembly, anyways. At least I hope not. I have heard that they're required to do an inspection for warranty purposes, but idk if that's just internet gossip or fact.

They wanted to charge $695 "setup" fee when I tried to buy a new 300 Rally. Along with $1200 more for other stuff.

Makes me think it's a liability issue and they don't want to get sued because some jackass fucked things up and won't take responsibility. Sign a waiver and take off is what I say :D
Reminds me of the twunt that gorilla glued her hair to her head and then wanted to sue.

This is what I just sent, we'll see!

    Hey Brian,

Happy Tuesday. I have two questions for you:

    1) I'm guessing this is a longshot, but that it wouldn't hurt to ask: what are the odds of me being able to buy the Grom still crated? I assume it's a no, with warranty and liability implications, but I'm a very competent mechanic and have always thought it'd be fun to un-crate/assemble a brand new unit.

And 2) What would a estimated OTD price look like? I know Honda has their $200 and $100 shipping/freight fees to add on top. Anything else aside from standard doc/tax/title stuff?

    Thanks!
    Spencer

The shop here wanted $1200 for "shipping/freight" even after I told them Honda has it listed as a $200/$200 charge. They told me it was just a suggestion. I would have been $8700 OTD for a $6600 MSRP bike. Why I bought used :D

When I bought my Navi from the dealer this new dealer bought out it was no extra fees aside from the $300 Honda put on there and tax/title/tag/doc whatever. Fingers crossed these other guys are keeping it the same, too. It's such a small town and they have so much inventory I'm hoping they just want to move it. By my count they have 5-2023 Groms (not counting the ABS one that hopefully shipped yesterday that I'm trying to buy), 1-2022 Grom, 1-2023 Monkey, 1-2021 CUB, and 2-2022 Navis.

    Hopefully they'll do right
I completely understand dealers need to make money. I just didn't agree with such a huge markup over MSRP.......cheap bastard

Bummer about getting laid off. Those are $1800 new and most dealers around me have them in stock. You got a good deal, but resale maybe $1500???

I'm selling mine to a friend for $2100 with less than 300 miles. The market is still tight to get them without a garbage amount of added fees, it seems.

Well, it looks like Groms come 99% assembled anyways. I figured there'd at least be putting on wheels or something, but nope, mirrors in that small cardboard box and unstrapping it is the full uncrating. Not gonna lie though, that pile of steel looks like good scrap metal for practicing welding haha
