I was up to my doors a couple of times. I hope I didn’t do any damage to my TOB. Currently at 40k miles.

I try to avoid water crossings but sometimes you can’t.

It's about the only thing that I can come up with other than a somewhat defective part.

LOL, for once he made me do most of it:stirthepot:

Yes, TOB get's worn out with water, mud, dirt etc. Also I suggest to drill and tap two holes around slave cylinder opening door and put a bar across, I once lost that cover and had a lot of mud packed inside of the housing... :ohsnap: this was one clutch ago lol

Oh yikes. That cover does fit pretty loosely.

    Another good idea.

I'm gonna get the parts ordered for the TOB swap.

In the SM, "MP Grease" is noted for the splines and "Release Hub Grease" is noted for the fork pivots. Anybody got a decode on that?

I have some moly paste (Honda Lube) at home as well as the red stuff that we use for the U joints and brake grease.

    Thanks!

I would plan on the clutch, because the throwout bearing can really ruin the fingers after a while, especially if the TOB is bad. I'd certainly at least look through the window and see how it looks before opting to not do the clutch. Would hate to get in there, find out it needs a swap after all and not be ready for that.

    Cheers!

I will take a good look. At this point, the noise is almost inaudible unless I am in the garage or facing a wall. I think it is really early.

I say fvck it...buy everything to do the clutch. If ya need it, ya got it. If you don't need it, you will eventually and it will be more expensive then. Invest in the future bro!

Not really in a fuck it position right now though. Never had a wear issue in the past. I'll get a good look at the fingers through the inspection hole.

I'll whip out the endoscope.

The third pedal isn't a foot rest for me. :D

    Alrighty.

    Here's the endo vid:

Here's an overview from my phone:

    Bottom of the bell housing:

    Peaking into the clutch plate:
    20230124155203237.jpg

    TOB to clutch diaphragm:

    20230124154803995.jpg

    TOB:
    20230124155039684.jpg

I'm pretty confident with just swapping the TOB at this point and intend to check for the chirp on every drive.

I am trying to decide if the grease smear on the diaphragm spring is assembly lube or bearing grease?

Red grease is sufficient, that's what I used. Also have a look at these videos, that's what I used to refer to when doing clutch, I don't like reading... it's the same process.
