I was doing more wire removal on the lexus and I came across these two modules, per the factory manual these are the wireless key interior antennas. No antennas, no start lol. Also they put a floor mounted airbag sensor adjacent to the left antenna in this pic (yellow cover). I will have to also figure where to mount that, in similar orientation, in the Tacoma cab.

Got some new fittings on the rear brake lines, the lines themselves are good, fittings were crusty. And got the extended stainless lines installed. I put some silicone and heat shrink over the fittings to prevent corrosion.

I have a couple more sections to box in the frame. I ordered all oem new plastic brake line holders. Also I came up with a good idea about reusing the front brake lines off of the gx. Since the cross member has to be moved 3 inches back, I will need to use the GX460 brake lines. The tacoma brake lines has a sig sag bend right behind the cross member, so it would interfere with were I need to put the cross member. I will show you guys more once I get closer to having that fitted up. Also I will use the Tacoma Evap line but hook it up to the Lexus charcoal canister. It will be very nicely done.

Got more welding done today. I am very happy with how dimensionally accurate the DMZ fab kit was. Highly recommend.

    Couple of questions:
    1) Does the intake manifold have a port for a traditional vacuum brake booster?
    2) Do you know what is is that makes this engine produce significantly more power in the sedan applications? Is is just a different intake manifold?

    1. It doesn't appear to but I think you got a nice spot on top to drill into. Or possibly run a line from up stream.

    2. The car version is designated as 1UR-FSE and has direct and port injection whereas the truck engine is port injection only.

    1) Interesting! The Tundra application (& maybe Sequoia) must be using a slightly different intake then because the 4.6L Tundra has a vacuum brake booster.

    2) No, I’m not talking about the direct injection motors. This same 1urfe is rated for 342 hp at 6,400 rpm and 340 ft/lb at 4,100 rpm in the sedans.

edit: I just looked it up. The cars use way different intakes and exhausts. LS models even have 2 MAFs for each side of the airboxes. Possibly different cam profiles too, but I couldn’t find any info on that.

Hmm interesting, for some reason I thought the cars were all fse. Now you got me curious if this engine can be tuned to that hp output.

The gx460 has a redline of 5500 rpms. Whereas the cars rev to 6400 rpms. Theres your power difference. I wonder was mechanically is changed.

I’m guessing shorter intake runners, maybe different throttle body, different ECM/tune & maybe different cams & valve springs. Though different I doubt that the exhausts account for much or any of the difference in output. Block is the same though, even for the direct injection version I believe. So yeah, the motor has potential for sure!

I wonder if there’s tuning support for the GX460? Could just raise the redline. I’m sure the bottom end can handle it. 4 bolt mains, forged crank and rods!

I wish HP Tuners supported it but I couldn't find anything on their website. Orange Virus has a tune package but does not provide custom tuning according to their website.
