Prepaid Maintenance Program

For $399–

3 yrs, 5 services. Worth it/saves…$?
(All the other basic stuff like towing, etc.)

They are normally $120 per service at the dealer.

 

Not me...Ill let the motor blow up before i let those express guys touch mine...but thats just me

 

Is it 3 years beyond the first 2 years of free maintenance? If not you would only be paying that amount for 1 year of maintenance.

 

I would save the money.

 

The key word is 3 years. Major service items start after 3 years with fancy($$) fluids and labor -diffs, tcase, tranny, spark plugs, etc. I would pass on..save money

 

Clarification, this vehicle is just out of the free service period. It is getting the basic oil change, though the diff change is due (currently at 30k).

I mean, it depends what it includes.
That said, there is a very good chance they want your money now,,, cause it's not a good deal and they'll make non refundable or nearly impossible to get a refund.

 

5 oil changes. Tow service, etc

 

Unfortunately they bring it upon themselves.

 

Unfortunately, you only hear about the few bad apples. I heard somewhere, you have a bad experience you tell 10 people, you have a good experience you tell 2. So I'm sure there are hundreds of good one that you just don't hear about, so you label them all "stealerships". And by people bashing the the dealers, keep the dealer techs on here from wanting to be helpful.

I ended up not getting it. I’m really just paying to get the service automatically recorded, and the inspections I guess.

 

You do the math, read the fine print on the contract and evaluate your experiences with your dealer.

Then decide.

A bunch of faceless internet strangers have no idea about your specific needs and what you may consider as valuable.

 

We did that once on a Subaru. Never again. While they actually did good work, the dealer we had was continuously overbooked. That literally caused us engine issues down the road. Long story.

The big thing is that you are now tied to that dealer. Nope. I'd rather have the choice and ideally do everything at home.

 

Crazy must be a Subaru thing because I had the same issues when I owned one.

I think so. We've heard the same at other places.

 

I bought a service/oil change package from my local dealer. It was a good deal but after my last prepaid oil change I plan on switching to an independent shop. I think it came out to about ~$70 per change but it's not worth the hassle, all local dealers are about a month out on scheduling. The dealer tried to sell me 30k maintenance including replacement/flushing of the power steering, coolant, transmission, transfer case, differentials, and brake fluid (maybe). I denied it all so not sure what the cost would be but none of that is due according to the toyota maintenance schedule minus the diff fluid or transfer case depending how you drive your truck. I'm planning on switching to a local toyota shop and only using the dealer for warranty work.
