Steering wheel won’t center

What do you mean by not centering after you turn the wheel?

 

When I make it right or left turn while still driving. The steering wheel does not wanna center back. I have to forcefully turn it back. It’s supposed to center back straight on it’s own, without me forcing it back straight

 

Sorry to digress on your issue, but how did you know your tranny fluid was low? Just bought a 2023 as well, should I worry about my transmission fluid level?

 

My gears would go out of wack. It would downshift like if I was driving a stick shift .Mac truck. I would just get the level checked on it.

 

And it wasn’t changing gears after the 3rd gear

 

Something's binding or bad alignment

 

Yes sir, i dont know what’s binding. But I did an alignment on it today. And still is doing the same thing.

 

It sounds like you don't have enough positive caster in the front end. That's what give the centering effect. When you have positive caster, or, I should say, enough positive caster and turn the wheels, you are effectively raising the front of the vehicle as the wheel turn. The natural state of equilibrium is to not be lifting and the steering returns to center. That's where I'd look first, but I would not trust the dealer to get the alignment right other than to get it within spec, which may not be enough, although you can sure tell a lot by the numbers their rack gives back to you when they check the alignment.

i do know for a fact that the Tacomas for whatever reason have more heavy steering than half ton trucks Lol.

 

Do you have a print out of the alignment specs? Something sounds off.

 

There is a center jack point in the front if you want to lift the truck up and run the steering rack back and forth to make sure nothing is binding within the rack.

 

You can still have a bad alignment...

Unfortunately, if you have to force it, sounds like binding. Could be anything from: steering column linkages, steering rack, tie rods, ball joints...

Either way, I would find a good alignment shop, they're aren't as many, as most places use alignment prices to lure customers in for other work, and often you simply aren't going to get a real tech to spend 30-60 minutes properly aligning your vehicle for the teaser prices some advertise.

 

Not sure if your issue is that same but I had issues with my steering wheel coming back to centre on my 4R. After a short while I could feel a grinding. Turned out it was my Intermediate steering shaft that was seizing.
