Hence why you need all the wood! I have about 1.5cord and should be fine. You are 3000 miles from me and about 200' north.

Warm spell here in the central Sierras. Do not envy you all at all.

Still burning wood though. It’s a chilly 44F out.

    Down to -4 this morning.
It was -7 a few years ago.

Note: This is the southeast, not the far north. :)

We hit -7 at the house here last night in WV lol we’ve seen colder but not much

I just installed a Drolet 1500 insert (is that what you have @nDub ? )in our fireplace this fall and it held its own. So much so the furnace barely ran and the unforeseen consequences of not having all that warm forced air moving thru the ductwork led to some frozen pipes in the crawl space. Hopefully no leaks

    edit:
No leaks after I thawed them out lol I had some shark bite shutoffs and a pipe cutter handy just in case

I got a Osburn 2000 installed last Monday. Couldn’t be happier to be burning wood again. I had a gas fireplace and mantle that we got removed. Got it dry walled, new mantle and got the stove in. It’s been a warm winter here and I wish I would have had in time for the artic air last month but better late than never. Supply chain issues delayed my project. Nothing like burning wood.

Hello jester156 -nice looking woodpile! Here is an idea for you: Instead of the clunky pieces of wood to hold down your tarps, find yourself some old window sash weights tied to your plastic tarps. I switched to these several years back and I like that system waaay better. Also the "blue" tarps- around here wal mart sells the medium duty brown/silver tarps for a great price -and my wife says they look nicer than the blues.

thanks for the suggestion. this being a new home and not having the storage I had at the old, its make shift for now to get it off the ground. I buy logs by the truck load so the chunks are put to use as I have no desire to split them smaller.
I know come spring and the first round of yard projects, the GF will have some "suggestions" for the wood storage.

Yeh I weight at the bottom also. Prevents water pooling. Brown tarps for the win!

Brown tarps are harder to see. I lose my wood piles under them.... :)

Doesn't bother the wood a bit if it's not tarped unless it's this years wood just makes it easier to handle. Our winter wood is under the deck. My next years wood is out in the field uncovered snow rain or shine. We have central heat up here in Maine with smart thermostats but if we are awake it's just wood about 4 cords.

We do too, but we keep about a cord of wood under a tarp for the early part of winter. And bring that in first.

Seriously though I have a larger storage woodshed by my shop (pic in post#2 and #3 of this thread) for wood being seasoned and s smaller 2 cord-ish woodshed by the house for wood to be burned that winter

We have one. The wood we buy is said to be seasoned before we buy it. We do not wait a year, but burn the leftovers first the next year.
3 cords in the shed after delivery in the summer, and the rest outside under tarps. That burns 1st.
