Don’t need it perfect but pics are hard to gauge. My finger fits in that gap. Time will tell how this is all handled

This is interesting. When I was looking back in November I found a TRD sport DC that has the same issue. Salesman on the lot said “that’s how they come nowadays”. I wish I kept the photos as one side was way off compared to the other. It was one of the reasons I passed on that truck. Glad they are taking care of you.

Nothing matches perfect on a modern vehicle with the mix of plastic and metal parts being painted in different places. If the body shops paint dept gets it close, does a blend on the tops of the fenders, it will look fine.

Weird, here's my 2023 too. I'm usually one to jump on fixes, but I'll be damned if this isn't a boat I want to completely rock right now.

Grabbed some photos. It's not bent, it's like someone said where it's missing metal at the edge when stamped. Included some angles if you guys are curious. For those of you with the weird edge shape, what is your production date?

Glad Toyota is making it right. For those unaware, there are fit finish drawings that define gap and flush offset with tolerance on the interior and exterior of EVERY vehicle. Sure a few areas still get missed. Dealerships don't know crap. The drawings are internal to factory /design. Body shops probably have a guide to reference as required. Once you are trained to inspect for it, you will NEVER un-see it.
Car shopping is not enjoyable for me anymore, COVID, chip shortages, supply chain shortages have trashed overall vehicle quality across every OEM the last 3 years. I was flat out embarrassed for the new 2023 Tundras sitting in my local dealership. Some of the issues were related to cutting corners on cost and rushed design, the others were poor execution and development of tooling.

But yeah I see gaps and can’t unsee them and other flaws. It’s just nuts

Yep, pretty minimal. I'd have a hard time accepting the gap that OP has but ours are minimal. I can live with mine.

Yea it's obviously a problem, but the repaint and matching gone wrong could be far far worse.

glad they are making it right but my goodness, i can't believe that made it out of the factory.

i had to go look at mine. both edges are what i would expect.

paint match seems good too but, my bed is misaligned. it's very noticeable how much one side sticks out beyond the cab vs. the other side. someday i will straighten it. the dealer said they won't do anything about it, it's normal.

Consistency in gaps is really the main priority. Second priority is clearance. If fender skin contacts headlight lens, it will inevitably degrade the headlight seals and headlight will fail long term.

The hardest part for me to accept is that the current quality level across the board is being normalized as acceptable despite the skyrocketing price tags. Pay 20k more for lesser quality, but "everyone's doing it!"
I have a 2018 Tundra and consider it the last great dinosaur.

I'm glad at least OP was made whole this time. And I do hope we get over this new normal malaise

Panel gaps and misalignments are more common on 3rd gens than you think. Back when Toyota had several trucks on their lots at a time you could compare and see that several trucks had hoods and fenders that were caddywhompus. You might as well check that the bed is centered properly on the frame and that the gaps between the cab and bed are the same on both sides.

Also, have you checked the gaps on the sides of the tailgate too?

If you have uneven gaps there, you can slide your tailgate over about 1/4” by hand.

hopefully they can match the paint well. more than likely, they will be blending the fenders, for color match (industry standard practice on 3 stage, and high metallic colors).

I understand it is a cosmetic issue (and I have ocd as well) but, I also understand you are trusting the dealer, and It's body shop to match the paint as well or better than the factory finish.

for me, if the color was good now, I would live with the gap. no one will know but, you. if the paint doesnt match, or fails down the road... everyone will know, and comment on it. just food for thought. Ski
