Does anyone know the output amperage rating for the 1st gen alternator on a 3.4 truck? no towing package.

Thanks Chris. Kinda thought it was wimpy like that 'cause when I have the heads on and turn the off-roads on the dash lights dim and recover ever so slightly and quickly.

You can get a higher out put alternator, if you find you might need one. OR, your can be re wound for a higher output. With your lights, 100 amps would be pretty good. Thats one of the reasons I havent put lights on mine, is because of the low alt output. :(

I have a 1 Farad "Punch" cap in the garage from an audio setup a few vehicles ago. Was kicking around somehow using it to cover the drop when I switch the off-roads on. If I put it on the always hot side of the lamp circuit it would just be basically another battery, but if I put it on the switched side it would be worse since it would have to charge up before it helped, by then it wouldn't be needed.

rockauto sells 80 amp units. wonder if a unit out of a different toyota would mount up without too much modding? junkyards are full of wrecked camrys etc.

excellent question. none of the catalogs i normally check even ask if it's for a tow pack vehicle or not.

Around 110 amps. They will bolt right in with no mods.
