I had the attitude that I would move or travel anywhere where the language was based on Latin or English was compensatory. Just put me on a plane and I'll figure it out when I get there.

    teach me your ways lol

I'm the exact opposite, I have to know everything to the point that it will hinder me and keep me back. Not always a bad thing but sometimes it is.

Honestly I wonder if it's worth investing in an IRA/mutual fund etc. at my age in anticipation of retiring in 40-odd years. At the end of the day, we still have finite resources, so idk how long the market can just keep growing.

Do it now not later. I waited way too long to start saving for retirement and it could hurt me later. I wish I had started in my 20s.

They say it's one of the best ways to increase your salary. I definitely have a continuation bias though as far as jobs and routines. Part of me wants to save up a little nest egg then go volunteer on a farm in Chile or Tasmania for a year aha

Yeah I sort if dabbled in it a few years ago and ended up losing money lol. I wasn't very strategic about it though. Once I start my new job I wanna set up a mutual fund or ETA, even if I only keep it for 5-10 years it should be a smart move.

how old are you again? If that's a dream of yours then I would definitely make it happen. Especially before spouse/kids if that's also something you want, because it will be damn near impossible for a long time once that happens. Kids in particular I mean.

One thing about working for schools is I get excellent retirement benefits. In another year I get a check for the rest of my life if I leave this job and the longer I stick around the more that check increases plus I pay into the other retirement accts too. But seriously the amount they match or multiply is crazy.

oh yeah I wouldn't do any risky stock stuff, although sometimes I wish I knew more about that. But that just feels like gambling to me. Just a low risk investment account that slowly accrues over the years. Along with whatever other means of saving you want to do.

probably the most secure way is to buy into the index fund of the target retirement year, something like $VFIFX

They are pretty risk averse but should be more stable than just buying diversified stocks

fuck it I'm working a gov job after this, damn benefits sound awesome.

We finally got 401ks here at work about 4 years ago (state mandated for companies of certain size) but no company contribution unfortunately.

They're running an aggressive hiring campaign here right now. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thinking about it too. The starting wages are pretty damn good.
