The correct (IRA) investment will allow you to avoid taxation while your wages are high. Then when low, will be less. What would be great is if you could find some land in NWA to buy and hold as a retirement asset for tax purposes. Starting early, if only with a small amount of funds is always a good thing.

 

I opened a Roth because I expect my 401k to grow substantially by the time I retire. Therefore I theoretically would be able to be in a lower tax bracket for the withdrawn funds by using the Roth funds (non-taxable when used) on top of the 401k funds (taxable when used). So it's a balance.

The market growth does scare me a bit because I'm someone who believes we already have too many people in the world, and all stats say population growth is slowing. And unfortunately for us, the entire economic system is designed around continued growth, with the common denominator being population.

Our company used to match 100% of the first 6% you contribute, but now it's for the first 3% and 50% of the next 2%. Still better than nothing.

I worked with and had a buddy from Chile when I lived in FL. Good people.

When we lived in New Jersey we had good friends from Uruguay. I always enjoyed listening to Uruguayan Spanish because it seemed like a mix of Spanish, Italian, with dash of Portuguese and French.

I would be on the train platform in the morning and listened to different groups speaking Portuguese (Newark), Cuban Spanish, Puerto Rican Spanish, Uruguayan Spanish, and a blend (all of the above) that was common around Union Citi NJ.

Actually I work with guys from Costa Rica today. We are all in the same time zone.
