Haha, totally! And wow you have a lot more clearance than me at the steering shaft ujoint, you ground down the stock bungs a bit didnt you? I may end up doing that here soon, just for a little more engine clearance as my pan does get the dirt rubbed off of it from hitting the rack, even with poly mounts.

Is there any increased risk from removing those crush ribs from the steering shaft? That modified shaft looks awesome though.

Technically yea if you get in a very very nasty wreck the ribbed section collapses to help prevent the steering column pinning you in a vehicle. Granted in a wreck that bad thats the least of your worries. To each there own

 

Update, got the rack, trying to move some stuff around and make some time this weekend, also got motor mounts

 

It’s been a long time since I’ve looked at this thread. But after seeing @ClassyTacos pics did you finally make some offset bushings so you don’t have to cut weld to install? Or did I not go back far enough on the install to see that part?

 

I am quite jealous of how clean your work shop is. Very nice.

For those of us that are lazy, can’t you just raise the engine a bit and not have to remove the diff? Or is removing the diff required?

Nice work on the offset bushings too. That was the part I was initially not looking forward too.

 

Yes you can, see my post somewhere in the first few pages, back in the days when there were no offset bushings and chopping was required

 

Sweet. That’s what I thought I remembered. Then I saw that video of him pulling the diff and thought I misremembered.

Between that and the new bushings the install is more doable for me (daily driver and no garage).

 

the video just shows the optimal way to do it on a third gen...granted you need a lift lol. but i may start offering modded steering shafts with the racks too..still undecided and checking to make sure the measurements are right for different truck generations and platforms... then theoretically its a bolt on kit

 

I waited long enough for the eccentric bushings to be created. Here’s to waiting long enough for the shafts too.

I don’t know why I care about the shaft. It might have been this thread where worrying about getting impaled by a DOM shaft in a wreck you probably have more to worry about.

My cab mount is gone, most of bumper is gone, a solid steering shaft can’t make it any worse.

 

I can’t be the only person wondering why nobody has chopped a section out of the sway bar and welded it in.
