    That would be a supercharger.
Turbo would send shards into the exhaust and cats.
Either way there is usually fair warning for that. A turbo is almost as old an engine itself.

Can we talk about the front timing cover leaking on the V6 that’s a 4-6k job due to a shit ass design by Toyota. That’s a bigger deal than a turbo replacement…

How many issues has the engine had anyway, it's already being used so there must be reports

No. Two sides to a turbo, hot side and cold side.

if the cold side impeller starts to let go (excessive shaft play) and starts rubbing the housing as it spins it sends small shavings through the intercooler and then into the intake.

A turbo replacement can easily be the same price.

Only time will tell whether the turbo is the weak link in the new Tacoma powertrain. My guess is that they will be.
That said, with the move to electrification, all these ICE vehicles will be relics on wheels anyway.

You will still have to make all of those repairs. Now you will just need a few thousand more dollars to replace the turbo and maybe a few more for a head gasket. Definitely a truck you will want to trade in before you hit 100K. Let the next fool deal with all the repairs.

The T24 is so new we have very little experience with it, just a handful of highlanders and we've heard its a riot to drive in the NX.

Larger sampling will come with time.

I prefer it on the highlander if you have 2+2 kids. With weight or towing, I still prefer the V6.

How about a turbo 4 cylinder plug in hybrid. That way every possible thing that could brake is all on the same vehicle.

My point is shit happens. The turbo will be fine. There are bigger fish to fry. Like will it actually drive better ?!

that's after electric conversion ends up being a big flop, so another 10-15 years at least

Very pessimistic viewpoint. This isn’t the 1980’s, turbos regularly last 150k or more these days from other manufactures. Toyota also takes their time to implement tech after they can figure out how to do it reliably. I personally don’t think you would see them put the ttv6 in the new Land Cruiser if they had serious issues. That’s their flagship beacon of reliability.

Nah. You need that charging port and cord so there more expensive things to break.
At this point I’ll take just a full electric truck with less things to break.

They already have a car on the market...and Canada is investing billions starting next year or the year after . So no it will be sooner

Speculation, but I highly suspect that the Gen 4 turbo will last well over 150k.

If the new tundra is any indication then yes. After driving the iforce max the 5.7 feels anemic. Imagine making peak torque at 3000 rpm. Cruising highway speeds at 1500 rpm with a new 8 speed or 10 speed. Add a hybrid max setup and push over 350 tq. Sounds good to me.
