RCI makes a nice aluminum fuel skid. May or may not have installed one myself last night in fact. :anonymous:

Dang that thing is pretty sick....hey stop shopping for new vehicles, more modding to your existing ones!

Awesome photos, looks like you are enjoying your time down there!!

FJ much much smaller. Google says 4Runner has about 46 cubic feet interior (plus or minus depending which generation we're talking about), FJ Cruiser is 28.

I hate those round headlights, low beams look like high beams with no cutoff and blind everyone. Pretty on-brand for a Jeep or Ram though.

    With friends like these...
I need to get to work on some of my backlog of woodworking projects as my source of disposable income that my wife won't stop me from using on truck stuff.
I picked up a Woolwax kit back in November and never had a chance to apply it. I also have a bed lighting kit from Matt Gecko and the instructions state that the led strip lighting adhesive should be applied when it's above 60°, so I'm either waiting for that or I'll have to push my Audi out of the way to get my truck in the garage and heat it up. I've been told that applying Woolwax/Fluid Film in a garage is a bad idea, however.

I'll keep you posted. My garage is my favorite hanging out spot and I have a beer fridge in there.

Taco will do the same thing. It’s C channel behind the cab and is designed to flex.

If you’re gonna apply woolwax in your garage, you might as well kill two birds with one stone and lay out all your tools. That way they’ll have a nice thin protective coat as well.

Doesn’t matter where, as long as they’re in the garage lol

I was busy being a procrastinator and applying Woolwax myself last night. 100% wear clothes you can get dirty with no expectation of coming clean again, but I disagree with it making that big of a mess. If you are careful it's not that big of a deal. I used the black dyed stuff too so I think I would notice if it caused that big of a problem. Have done this now for 3 years running. :notsure: Maybe if you have a 2nd nice car in your garage move that out, maybe throw down some cardboard on the floor to move around easier (I use those cheap HF moving blankets or old cardboard boxes so I can breakdance on them when I'm done) but otherwise don't sweat it much.

Definitely a good idea to keep the "wax" warm though. It's thick enough that at temps around freezing it flows like molassas and sprays like shit. Ask me how I know!

Definitely wait to apply the Matt Gecko adhesive stuff. Or any other adhesive stuff. I've screwed up like 3 things this week trying to rush and apply them in the cold, now I need to re-order special VHB tapes and stuff. Just wait.

Heh. Yeah, I think it was @Camerasandcoffee who suggested putting the Woolwax bottles in a bucket of hot water. I have a few of those HF moving blankets and plenty of break dancing cardboard. Maybe I'll get it done before all of the salt is washed off of the streets.

At this point wouldn't it be better not to apply Woolwax/Fluidfilm since salt has been laid and is already all over the truck? Wouldn't doing a coating now just "lock" the salt in place on the frame and crevices? I may be off base here but wouldn't it be better to just leave it and hit it before next season? Allowing the spring and summer rains to wash all the salt from underneath before coating.

    -Edit, more thoughts.
With coating you might be locking salt in but at the same time keeping air out which is a component of iron oxide (rust) sooooo. :notsure:

Thought it might make for interesting conversation. Thoughts?

I definitely considered just not doing it this winter. My plan was to run the truck through the Kwik Trip wash with underbody spray once, maybe twice and letting it dry up before applying.

Basically this. It’s been super dry down here in the SE, so before the most recent snow I took off all the skids and went for a couple trips through the wash to clean underneath. Spot checked and it was plenty clear of salt since we haven’t even salted roads this year until like yesterday. If it wasn’t for that I would have skipped this year because like you said I don’t want to experiment with locking salt in with a coating on top.

Next year I’m going to try and wise up and do it before Thanksgiving. I’m just either really busy or really lazy (or both) this year.

Coat the passenger side of the frame now. Coat the drivers side of the frame after a really good rinse in the summer. Report results in 5 or 6 years. Science!!!

I've been looking at getting a FJ Cruiser for awhile now, but prices are too high.
Thought I found what I call a "barn find" on Craigslist. It's listed as being in Fond du Lac. 2014, 90k miles, one owner, never offroad, dealer serviced.
    $17,495.00
    I thought no way.
    So I texted the guy.
He's listed it for his aunt.
She emailed me more pictures and full description. I'm thinking this is too good to be true.
    Then the red flags.
    No need for it.
Husband died of covid last year.
Her and her daughter along with her parents moved to Missouri. She would ship it to me for free. I would have 5 days to inspect it and if I didn't like it, ship it back for free.
    The hell with that.

Until I got her email I had it all planned out, Dobinsons. RCI, Demello and SCS.

Edit,, ,,The wife was ok with me buying it.

There’s 2 in Chicago for <$12k at dealers. They’ve got close to 200k on them but that’s nothing for the motor and you’re gonna strip the suspension out anyway. I’ve been close to getting one..
