What if the jack fails while you are under the vehicle trying to get that brace in place. It’s on the far side of the jack so you would need to be completely under the vehicle in most instances. You can put a jack stand in place with just an arm under the vehicle.

I actually have that project on my short list. All of my stove pipe should be in my hands in the next week or so, and I'll know exactly where the stove lands so that I can lay out the hearth. I'd love to see some pictures of yours as you go along, if you don't mind. We had an old poorly built fireplace with a rotten firebox and deteriorated chimney removed, and a new chimney built over the summer. We were expecting the mason to get back and install a hearth for us but they didn't, it's now winter and they've become very unresponsive so I'm going to do it myself and just tell them to get lost if they decide to show back up.

I'll just stick with a jack and jack stands. That's if I ever need to jack up a car or truck and work under them again. Which I don't know that I'll do.

I’ve got extinguishers on each floor and in the garage. I should spread them around a bit more. I have detectors in each bedroom and otherwise throughout the house, I forget if it’s 10 or 11. I’ve got an escape ladder in the kids’ room as well.

That jack bar is absolutely nice, but I would have zero use for it. I won’t get under the truck without stands regardless and there’s very little I would do on the truck where I’m under it with the wheels off.

If I need to get under the truck for an extended time, the Jeep or my Vette it’s going up on my QuickJack.

I have 5 total. Garage, basement, each floor, bedroom.

While we're at it, a CO2 detector for each floor. Cheap insurance.

One extinguisher hangs right at the end of the kitchen next to the stove, the other in the hallway on the other end of the kitchen.

You want a CO detector, not a CO2 detector. Unless you are accessing the respiratory status of everyone in your house. ;)

All of mine are combo units. When I moved in they had side by sides for smoke / CO. I kept those since I didn't feel like dealing with patching ugly faux whatever ceilings, but it's a lot easier to have a combo.

I wanted to 10 year lithium ones but the running story through all the reviews I read is that when they false (which apparently is often) the only way to get them to stop going off is to destroy them. I can deal with changing batteries instead.

The problem with that is you want a CO detector low, not on the ceiling.

OOPS, sorry that was a quick post after getting home from a neuro appt for the Cupcake...in Arlington, ugh

That is true re the "10 year", it's more like 10 yrs is the best case if you are shit ass lucky. My 7 year ones lasted about 3 years. And yes you're right that when they start going off when that wear happens you need to disable it, at which point it's useless. The ones I started changing over to are the old style with batteries.

I have my basement one on a beam but it's near the furnace and that location is still only 5 feet off the floor. The one in the living room is on the ceiling of the staircase which is the most ideal place.

Not sure if they still have, you used to be able to get plug in ones as well. Obviously power outage renders them useless though.

Jack stands: ALWAYS throw one under. Even if you leave the jack there (I have a 2T so I hate taking it down, I leave the jack up usually). The truck weighs 4 thousand pounds. Why risk it.

Fire Ex: the marine ones at HF are awesome too. I have one in truck. Have it within reach of driver seat. I love seeing them on the backs of bed racks and whatnot, which is great for camp, but if you're in the cab....hard to reach.

Oi! Another engineer at random! I haven't used sketchup in about 10 years. But I do like that it can conceptualize things and show them to people easily. Very powerful tool to have for free! I started working on a floorplan for my house just to have for reference and then that faltered, but might re-up on that.

Slap dash at the moment because it's cold but I needed to hook it up to save the battery.

    Am I a hybrid now?

Meh, google said up to 4500, I figured that's the long bed.

Anyway, 4k or 5k lbs won't really feel any different to you on the ground, I guess.

I use solidworks daily for work and during lunch I usually design my personal stuff during lunch. Its super powerful to build something for free before you actually build it

Fair enough haha, I just assume we're all on the upper end of that estimate with the armor/tires/etc

 I need to get back into this. Haven't done much since my CSWA.

I pulled 22mpg yesterday on the highway. My bumpers replaced a bunch of metal stuff behind ther, so the weight stayed similar. Sliders and skids though. But, guess not enough to be significant.

Larger tires are the biggest hit at MPG.

Reminds me of the Ron White joke: "I don't know how many guys it was gonna take to kick my ass.......but I knew how many they were gonna use"

What do you guys do about replacing or refilling fire extinguishers? A couple of the ones in my house have a gauge showing how full it is. I have a small one in my truck that is probably 20 years old and probably useless at this point.
