Horses for courses, I would never think of an EV as an ideal off roader, nor would I think an ICE as a ideal short trip commuter.

Yea what charger does 11.5kw at home ? That’s pretty high. Mine was 5.5-7kw. Also no one would go 0-100 should be 20-80 or so. So prob about the same amount of time

A lot of them do. Tesla’s and Rivian’s chargers are both 11.5kwh capable as are many others from outside manufacturers. I fully understand that no one would go 0-100% though.

I use my 95 Corolla for daily work commute. I fill it once a month for 40 bucks. Granted I have a very short work commute. Cost for fuel per year about 480. You are ahead 326.00. Cost to insure my Corolla 22.00 per month. Cost per month to insure your Tesla? Monthly payment for mine 0.0. Payment for your Tesla? This is why these kinds of comparisons are pointless because there is no baseline. Your operating costs are lower then driving a trx but significantly higher than mine so how can you say electric saves you anything over gas when the only way to calculate it is based on what you’re comparing it to?

It should be obvious beyond the need for discussion that a nearly 30 year old sedan is cheap to operate and insure. The cheapest vehicle is almost always the one you already own. Someone shopping and comparing vehicles isn’t likely to be looking at a choice between a ‘95 Corolla and a ‘22 Tesla.

I have the Prius example earlier but you can get a 2022 Corolla for like $20k.

I think the point is that you need a baseline to compare and most people aren’t comparing apples to apples. To his point why would you compare a RAM truck to a Tesla model 3. I think aligns with your point; people shopping for a Tesla are likely not comparing it to say an LC200…

A more like for like comparison would be with a Camry rather than a Corolla. In that case the Toyota is still cheaper, $26.2k vs $30.3k for a Tesla model 3.

But yeah, the point I meant to make was that the comparison only works when comparing similar size, purpose and age vehicles.

In that case they are just making a point of bad information to get more clicks or something. The portable charger included with the Hummer will charge at 7.7kwh on a 220 outlet which is still far less than 4.5 days.

I run a NEMA 14-50 at home. I could be fully charged (I never let it get very low as I plug it in) and it’s set to charge in off-peak..prob would only take a couple of hours..all done before I’m ready to leave, with the cabin temp set to where I tell it to be. If you SC it I’ll be a TON faster depending which version SC you are utilizing.
If you’re using the standard home outlet like mentioned, ya probably around there or longer depending on the size of battery and where you start charging (% wise)

I think the only E-Truck they have planned is the Hilux Revo.

Note that I never said new electric cars save anything over a 25+ year old economy car. I said operating costs are lower. Keeping an old car you already own outright will almost always be far cheaper than buying something new whether it is gas or electric. If you are in the market for buying a new car and comparing gas vs electric of similar equivalent priced vehicles, electric is cheaper to operate.

People get way too caught up in micro-scrutinizing the cost argument in EVs. Do they do that when comparing ICE vehicles? Not really. Car enthusiasts tend to buy what performs best and whatever they like best for a given price bracket. I did not buy my Tesla to save money. I bought it because it is an absolutely incredible performance car.

Your example is comparing a 25+ yr old economy car to a car that competes with supercars is also obviously an unjust baseline to your point. Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren are close in 0-60 performance to an M3P, lightyears faster than an even new Corolla, much less one decades old, so maybe costs and insurance rates should be compared to those supercars? Makes the Tesla look like a screaming deal. The answer to saving money will almost always be keep driving what you have till you drive it into the ground. Obviously the Tesla will cost more than the 25+ year old sedan, but is far cheaper and more practical than a supercar.

In terms of the App calculation, they use a 30mpg sedan for the savings calculation. Realistically that was way better than my supercharged Gladiator that required premium and got 12mpg. Comparing to a 30mpg sedan I'd actually say is tilting the table to ICE in the comparison for the M3P, as sedans that have this performance level are getting nowhere close to that kind of economy.

Gas was over $9.00 a gallon here in October for regular.
Electricity costs me $0.093 per kWh.
    A tesla model 3 uses about 15 kWh/100km's, or $1.37 per 100km's. Let's be generous and say $2.00
The equivalent ICE would get about 8 litres/100kms or 2.2 gallons per 100kms/62miles, or $20 in fuel.
Why in the Fu%$ would I choose to spend 10X as much on fuel and support some multinational vs. the locally generated hydro power plants?
    Big Oil can suck it.

Please. Electric cars are fast but make no mistake, they don’t “compete” with super cars. People don’t buy Ferraris because they are fast, you can make any car fast.

But for the record an M3P is about twice as slow as an 812, 0-200kph

If there was an equivalent to the Chevy Volt but sold in a truck body with awd/4wd, they'd sell more than they could make.
