Where are you guys getting crate or remand 3rzs from and what's the verdict? Who has experience with getting a motor and from who?

If you want to go the used/low mileage engine route, you can get an engine for very little $$. Your best bet in that case is to go to a local body shop and talk to the mechanic there about buying an engine from a salvage yard. The body shops all have relationships with the salvage yards and they never sell them bad engines. Bad engine = bad for business. You might offer the mechanic a "finder's fee" but you will have peace of mind that you are not going to get stuck doing all that work and have to do it again.

This should blow up dude not everyone driving one of these things has a billion miles on the original motor. The fact that people dogged these things and rarely even changed oil makes a "I promise it only has 160k" motor almost out of the question.

I used Yota1. I got about 15k on it now. No issues at all. I recommend them.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
I live really close to Sunwest and see their engines a lot for sale here. They specialize in Toyota trucks and Subarus

There's a six months waiting list for a yota1 motor last I heard....

Probably one of the most sold engines in this country.....plenty to choose from...
from $500 junk yard specials.....all the way up to the LC engineering ones maxing around $8500....

just make sure you contact them and work time lines out.......dont want to wait a year do you......

    https://www.toyotatruckengine.com/t...unner-t100-brand-new-3rz-fe-3rz-fe-1995-2004/

These are differentiated by pre 98.....distrutor model....
    98 to 2000 are 8 intake ports....

2001 and on...... have 4 port intake head and plenum.......

your ecm and engine harness are unique to that years engine, sensors, throttle body, and that particle tranny....AT/MT......

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
What I have always done is find a mid range mileage core engine .

Buy Cheap have the local engine builder do the short block machine work and assembly and the head work.

I have been involved in to many nightmares involving warranties and freight claims on out of state rebuilt engines.

Much worse if your paying labor to have the swap done. I have never found any company to warrant labor costs on a bad reman engine.

Much easier to deal 100% local to me on the big ticket items.

    Good luck .

What do you typically pay a local machine shop to rebuild a 2.7?
    Thanks

Did you have to swap your accessories onto the JDM block?

Swapped everything over so stripped it to the block and head resealed everything. Didn’t separate the head tho.

It all comes down to just what is needed.

Going back before all the supply chain problems and inflation the last 2.7 I had done was cheap .

new bearings and rings . head inspected and new valve seals every thing cooked and cleaned out the door for $600.00

After tearing down and inspecting things I might find the Block is going to take to much work that engine gets scrapped all the things of any use get saved.

Like anything else it comes down to your relationship with the people doing the work.

Yea I don’t have the skill or have good known machine people so I was getting a high quote most likely. I needed a motor stat though and a jdm was perfect cause I was gonna reseal it anyways I stripped the motor and all plus as long as the head gasket is good we were chilling. My jdm has 45k on it now and 185 across 4 cylinders so. So far good I have issues here and there but nothing about the motor more 23 year old wires..

No cash refund just credit I have no idea what became of the third engine.
