    Hey Guys,

I am replacing my rusted bed with a new to me bed. As I prepare to make the swap, I have thought about using something (DIY bedliner, etc) to treat the underside of the bed (the bottom) to protect it from future rust.

Anyone done this before? Worth doing? I plan to do a DIY bedliner in the bed, just curious if I could/should do anything to the bottom to protect it from future rust.

If you did this before, what product did you use? Results?

    Thank you!

I am removing my bed this summer to "fix" the rust that has begun under there and coat it to help lengthen its life. What I will do is to first clean it well, then apply a good rust converter to any rusty areas that I see, then I will coat that with CRC 06026 Heavy Corrosion Inhibitor. Looked at several tests of corrosion prevention sprays, and this CRC stuff came out great! I have used it on boats before in a marine environment, and it does work very well.

That looks pretty good--about how long does it last after application?

Well, I have never tried it on the underside of a truck bed, but it doesn't wash off in salt-spray like some of the other preventers. I use it on my trailer hitches and other exposed metal parts, and here in Michigan (LOTS of winter salt) it seems to keep rust away for a LONG time.

I sprayed some of my excess raptor liner that I did the whole truck in under there just to see if it would help with noise reduction. Still under there doing pretty much nothing

Thanks again for all the replies. I will pick up the bed tomorrow and start next week.

Be sure to closely examine the frame and give it some love while the bed is off.

Check www.monstaliner.com for your DIY bed liner. Very durable.

I put a new frame on it this summer. It should be in pretty good shape.

I plan on using monstaliner for the bed once it warms up a little more here.

    Thanks!

I would cosmoline the frame inside and out as well as being the final step on the bed bottom.

Monstaliner has a version of por15 and industrial paint to do the bed bottom with pre cosmoline.
