All major manufacturers are switching to electric.

Don't like it? Who cares. It's not about you. Sick of these threads.

The Tokyo Olympics were supposed to show case hydrogen, but covid obviously derailed the whole event. In the end it just doesnt work, it's a great idea though.

Toyota needs to change directions for profit and sustainability.

lol, well that’s not the way Jimmy Carter pronounced it.

And before you call Jimmy dumb, I’ll just point out he did graduate work in nuclear physics. :D
Nuclear power is my industry and we pronounce it more like new-kle-ur down south at least.

There was a article saying today ICE engines fuel for 100 miles is almost equal to EV 100 miles in cost..today?
Electricity comes from OlL production electric plants. A few from Sun, Solar and wind.

The world cannot support EV cars, trucks ,boats and planes, trains, etc. We will need more Nuclear power plant! What happens when a disaster strikes and no electricity? Maybe 2050?

Automotive replacement batteries cost maybe very expensive? And where do you dispose ?
Every new technology brings new problems…never ending…

We live off the grid, no way our solar and batteries can support more electricity appliances, EVCars ,etc..
Without a huge investment of more batteries and solar panels.

Lucky the coconut trees, banana plants and coffee trees do not need electricity to grow.

I’m disappointed to hear this, akio is not only a true car enthusiast but he also seems like a very grass roots type guy, I don’t know the new guy at all but I’m betting my milk money he’s the typical bean counting ceo who only cares about numbers and not the true needs or wants of the consumers and enthusiasts such as ourselves

3 things keeping me from EV's

    1) infrastructure stinks - Until the US Government gets serious about standardization, EV adaptation will be slow. All chargers should adhere to the same standard as gasoline pumps: all charge at the same speed, all use the same connector. Also, accelerate charging stations across the US along the Interstate and major highways.

    2) EV tech has limitations in real world scenarios compared to ICE when it comes to towing and extreme cold weather. Towing will cut half of your range and extreme cold temps will do the same. So towing a large trailer and/or driving up to the snow is an inconvenience.

    3) EV's are overpriced toys - Sure the Tesla P85D's are fast. The Rivian has legit off road chops. But they suffer from the limitations mentioned above making these high priced toys. The only value is local commuting where you can survive your round trip commute on a single charge. That is not enough to move the needle for me.

Good points. Also EV's make round trip commutes every day for days without a recharge.

Actually he has a valid point in all he said, and I’m a fan of hybrids and EVs. For example item one there was an article linked on TW comparing ICE and EV costs per mile as he stated, though I don’t agree with that article there indeed was an article. And I could go on.

Yes he does have valid points, most have been addressed or are being addressed. Not everyone is up on the current info and as much as I follow EV news I miss a lot.

    1) Everyone but Tesla and some Nissan Leafs use the same charger so that’s solved. Charging speed varies by design and you know what the charger speed is before ever getting to a charger. Not every charger needs to be a 350kwh fast charger, a simple 6-12kwh charger is far cheaper to operate and maintain and works great for places like a movie theater, office, etc.

    2) There are some limitations but that’s a surprise. Towing a maximum load on any truck cuts range in about half, it’s just that refueling an ICE vehicle is much faster. I tow more than the Tacoma is capable of multiple times a week and love it.

    3) Some EVs are quite expensive, no argument there. That said, you can get a new Tesla model 3 for $30k now which is pretty equivalent to a lot of similar size sedans. A Nissan Leaf can be had for a bit over $20k. They aren’t all expensive luxury machines.

    My Rivian - $6/100 miles
    My Tacoma - $24/100 miles
    My TRX - $40/100 miles

I’m sure you meant fossil fuels rather than oil for electricity production as oil power plants are actually extremely rare in the US.

A good chunk of that is inflation. What maintenance are you doing on an electric vehicle? Zero. Add your maintenance costs up for an ICE vehicle. Did you see how long a battery will last and the 8 year warranty?
