I realize this screen grab is blurry as hell but this is a shot of a used '22 at a local Toyo store taken from their website.

    gap2.jpg

This is from another store, a used '21...

    gap1.jpg

Seems to be a common occurance.

90% chance the new hood will have the same gap. My 22 has it too. Doesn't bother me.

Okay, I HAD to check my hood gap and it isn't perfect, but it is acceptable. Not as bad as the OP's. I'm pretty OCD about little things automotive but I personally wouldn't risk getting a replacement hood or the fender tweaked since it looks to be a combination of both. Too many things could go wrong or be wrong.

These vehicles are not hand-built luxury cars. They are mass-produced work trucks, probably a couple thousand roll of the line every week. I wish anyone looking for a new hood the best of luck, I really do. Only you can be the judge of what you can or cannot live with. But I have learned to pick my battles and this one could easily go south if I were to push it and I choose not to let it bother me.

Yeah, I'd be concerned if I was OP to go through the hassle of lining all of this up to end up finding out they have the same gap - except now you have a repainted hood, evidence of hood being off, etc which can cause a future buyer to wonder about damage, etc. I have a 2020 and do not seem to have this issue - I checked! Wonder when this started as it seems very common now based on the pics posted of newer tacos?

Yup, which is why I prefer to paint the whole truck or get it wrapped at digital wrap company. I don't like repaint part of it since most of time it won't match for some reason.

Mine has no flakes in it. Just black. My brother likes flakes in the paint. I don't want colorful flakes in black paint like '18 and up have them.

This thread is wanting me to do everything to get my deposit back and never buy a new vehicle again. I have never owned a Toyota and thought buying a Toyota would provide the highest probability of a great fit and finish and high resale value in 10 years. However, it sounds like even Toyota has terrible QA and fit and finish too. So disappointing, with my luck I know in 3 months when I get my truck it will have the same problem. I will try to get my deposit back. My current vehicle has a couple fit and finish issues; however it cost less than half of what the Tacoma I am purchasing costs. In fact this is the most expensive vehicle period, I have ever purchased. Really starting to hate cars and trucks.

I hear you but it's still a great truck. Fit and finish is not the Tacoma's strong suit. Realistically, probably about the same as other truck makers out there. Longevity and capability are the strong points for the Tacoma. It's never been a Lexus and never will be. Don't get too worked up just yet and make a hasty decision to back out. After all, you felt strongly enough about buying one that you put down a deposit. Just my 2 cents on it.

All vehicles have up and downs.... get over it. You don't need to stare at the truck all day.... just drive it. No one would notice your imperfect truck... At least your truck value will stay high as long as no accidents or anything like that.

Mine same way as ops, maybe a tad less noticeable. I only observed it while wiping a huge bird shit splatter off the hood. I’m not gonna pay it no mind as the hood looks great after I cleaned the bird bomb off the surface.

I chose the Tacoma because of the supposed quality, reliability, and great residual value. The powertrain responsiveness in city driving wasn’t nearly as good as the Ranger and I had access to an XPlan discount. It looks like quality isn’t there; however, I think the powertrain reliability will kill the Ranger powertrain. The 6 speed automatic and 3.5L with both port and direct injection should last much longer with less risk of carbon buildup. My goal was to be able to keep the truck 10 years and either get $15k out of it or give to my son. I don’t know with the green tech generation that these poor gas mileage 3rd gens will hold their value. I hope they do but we shall see. The green generation also has a weird logically incoherent view of cars and trucks as disposable things that are just another extension of their phone.

Agree with this...........although you add a KDMax tune and your driveability issues will be gone. You will be amazed how it changes the truck. I'm a true car guy and it impressed me. The Tacoma will always hold value, despite other models available with cylinder deactivation tech, etc. Just look at the old Tacomas and pre-Tacomas. Their values are stupidly high and eventually these 3rd Gens will be the old Tacomas and they will command a premium for the old-tech that is reliable. Always going to be those people that buy vehicles as disposable, though and if you plan to trade every 2 years, I can see going to the latest and greatest tech like posted above. That's not me or a lot of Tacoma's target market.

Just checked my hood gaps and they're similar to OP's. Good thing I have a hood deflector installed or my OCD would have kicked in...

I agree with what you have said.. but I am sure gas based tacomas will hold high value when EV based Tacomas come out... which Gas supply will be available for long time. I doubt they will end the gas supply because I prefer to have gas truck to pull the trailer. I am not interested in EV truck pulling the trailer because it will waste battery quickly. Which shown proof in YouTube video. Here is a video and you will see why:

I know about Tesla Semis are EV and pulling the trailer but I have not seen the stats yet.

If EV tacomas hold resale value like gas trucks do. Then everyone would be happy as long as value stays high. If not, some of us will stay with gas truck much longer. Unless truck gets damaged in wreck or something, then find an used gas truck or new EV truck... it is up to you to pick. If you tow a lot, then find gas truck... or any diesel truck.

Maybe Toyota engineers are smart enough to beat Rivian trucks EV towing.

How did that pass inspection, then I reminded myself they come out of Mexico. The Japanese are far too particular to let that go.

You have to remember the EV and gasoline engines battle is not what WE want, it’s what the politicians and their powerful friends who pay them off to make policy want. The governments will kill gasoline engines not actual true market forces.

Yeah I know that. If gas supply get killed off, then I get the feeling that there will be protest out there to keep gas markets stay more longer.

I hope they keep gas supply around much longer until EV towing issues get sorted out.
