Except in California where you can’t buy a new one. Oh and you can’t buy gas powered chainsaws, lawnmowers, leaf blowers, pretty soon your gonna have to have a Tesla powered boat if you wanna go fishing…oh and the boat can’t touch the water…nor can your line or lures…

 

Our infrastructure will never be up to par for their plan. Not unless they wanna build several new nuclear plants that have the ability to produce the power we need, and build several multi acre battery facilities to store that energy, and up grade the lines for transportation of said energy. But nuclear power is bad.

I think me typing “extremely rare” was probably misleading. Extremely small percentage of production would’ve been more accurate.

I’m not scared of EVs…I take that back…I’m afraid of the destruction they cause when the battery becomes compromised and becomes a major hazard to everything around.

What bothers me is that elected officials invested in stock for the production of EVs and now they are jamming it down our throats with policies and laws under the guise of green energy. How green is it tho? Has anyone actually done the research? Has anyone thought about how many millions of acres of forest will be destroyed mining the materials that we can’t even confirm are available here? Not to mention the impact building tons of charging stations, solar farms, wind turbine generators, hydro electric generators and what ever other great new technology they can shit out to sustain the draw of energy. Wind farms fail, and puke gallons of oil daily, kill migratory birds, and damage the earth around it. Solar farms reflect so much heat back into the atmosphere that clouds won’t form over them, solar panels are full of toxic chemicals, and require a ton of upkeep to be effective. The return on energy there is also quite minimal. EVs have nothing to do with “saving the planet” which is my original argument. It’s about money, as is everything else in this world. No one in power truly cares about the environment, they care about how much money they can make because in their world, money is power.

Personally I think EVs are pretty cool, aside from being a ticking time bomb. Teslas are wicked fast and I’ve seen a few customized tastefully and I approve. Some EVs are just plain ugly (bmw for instance) I would never own one for reasons previously stated, but I don’t hate them, nor am I scared of them. I don’t agree with having policies thrust upon the general public for the profit of elected officials.

 

No one is jamming EV's down your throat. If you think they are, it means you're listening.

 

That research has been done in fact, many, many times. Most of what you state has been proven incorrect. Multiple studies into the total lifecycle of both ICE and EV from the mining of all initial materials through to the end of use have shown that EVs produce lower total emissions than ICE vehicles. Even when powered solely by coal power plants this is true. EVs aren’t some magical golden bullet solution to climate change but they can be a factor contributing to a cleaner world.

They have done environmental studies. And the cold hard reality is that they do have a lower impact across all resources, precious metals included, than ICE.

That said, the worst possible thing you could do from an environmental standpoint is to throw away your two year old truck to run out and buy an EV. It's not the metals that are the issue, it's the plastics. One thing that the USA is better at than most of the world, surprisingly enough, is at recycling metals. Most of our steel plants are now able to consume and re-fire a large volume of scrap metal - something that even Europe lags on thanks to their older blast furnaces versus our newer electric arc plants. However, we all suck at recycling plastic. And that's where the biggest resource waste still lies.


The best thing you can do is hang on to your vehicles for their planned lifespan of 10, 15, even 20 years, and then buy something with a lower impact, which currently, would be an EV.


As far as ripping up the earth for lithium goes, that's going to be some of the smallest operations, relatively speaking. I work in non-metals mining. Its not even lunchtime yet, and I guarantee that you have already touched, ate, drank, and sat upon at least 10 things that came from just the mines I work for, from just the one company I work for. You don't want to know how much came from mining in general, because it's literally everything. You'd be surprised, maybe horrified by how much we depend on extracting things from the ground.

 

Keep em around the yard. I like to sit in them and member the good olde days.

This will be a thing when when fuel is 15$ a G or 22$ A L. Enjoying our ICE on our property with nowhere to go.

 

The new chemistry of batteries, used in EV's laptops, electronics, etc. are being developed to reduce or end mining of lithium though cobalt is used more in everyday products and cars, both ICE and EV, use cobalt. Though cobalt free batteries are being developed. So to complain about the mining of lithium and cobalt to those that propose oil exploration, transport, refining, retransport to petrol stations and then burned, is less harmful than lithium mining the past 100 years is quite hypocritical.
