Buying a Tacoma with damage, repair cost?

My guess is a right front hit and the structure to mount the fender was not corrected.

Did the salesman's lips move when telling you this was an easy fix? If so, that's a clue he's lying. Or at best playing dumb.

Get them to let you test drive for 1/2 a day or so, promise under x miles. Take it to a good body shop. My guess is the answer will be we can't give a price w/o removal of the fender, because we can't see the underlying damage. (see my opening sentence)

I hope I'm wrong and you get a great deal on a nice truck. But don't buy w/o knowing.

 

The body shop guy will say "Oh yeah, we've seen that truck before. Somebody brought it in here about 10 weeks ago.."
There's a reason the truck has been on the dealer lot for 4 months . . .

 

Looks like it’s probably had an aftermarket hood and bumper put on, and possibly some radiator support damage. We’ve had quite a few aftermarket hoods that are just not the right shape next to the fenders. Doesn’t look like they messed with the fenders judging by the slight color difference to the hood. I’d look elsewhere…

That makes me laugh every time I see that also.

 

This a 100%. My money is that it got into the core support or supporting structure a little. Otherwise they would have fixed already and you would be none the wiser.

 

Not sure which city or town the OP lives in. City would have many body shops compared to a small town. I would take it like mentioned for a long ride to a Body shop for a look at. Make arrangements with body shop first then take the truck out to see them and get an estimate to fix it. Pick a reputable body shop. just saying.

 

Might as well check the washer fluid and power steering reservoirs for cracks. They're plastic and mounted on that side.

 

After reading through all this,better to go look for another truck. If they can't fix the obvious stuff properly chances are the stuff you can't see is done poorly.

 

They, the dealer should provide a accident report. Here in Canada it is the law when selling used vehicles.
