Maybe OP needs a law degree to locate and comprehend the fine print below the window sticker's MPG. :notsure:

I usually drive like an old man. 2016 AC. First couple of years got 22. Then lifted and larger tires, now always under 20, but don’t care because it’s a truck and only drive a few thousand each year.

If you have a 3.5-liter Taco 4x4, I'm interested in knowing your hwy mpg and what year & model you have.

19 is not so bad. Keep it below 65 and that should come up a little. Keep it below 60 and it should come up a lot, at least in my experience.

Seems like this is your first pickup. They always seem to disappoint with MPG's in the real world moreso then cars. Like other people said, the EPA test loop is not realistic. Cars seem to maintain MPG closer to test results in the real world, but trucks fall off a cliff at real world speed because you are pushing a refrigerator through the air...huge frontal area, lots of underbody turbulence, and no way to bring the air back together smoothly at the rear.

How long have you had it? If you just bought the thing then keep in mind that it takes 1500 miles for the ECU to learn and adjust to your habits. If the previous owner drove like a goon then the throttle map will be in goon mode, with the shitty milage to match.

If you drive like a grandma, you have to drive like that for 1500 miles before the ECU finally learns your habits and adjusts the engine for optimal MPG performance.

It's a weird quirk of this truck and it's electric throttle. It takes your gas pedal as a suggestion and continues to do what it thinks it's right.

Wife and I took a leisurely, long weekend road trip a few weeks ago…approximately 750 miles round trip. Averaged 20.6 mpg for the trip. 2021 TRD Pro…stock at this time.

I was looking for an aerodynamics video and thought this was interesting...yeah, it's an F-150 but still a good comparison to review.

EDIT: I liked/subscribed and saw this video:

EDIT: Makes me wonder if the Air Dam (I took off) helps with aerodynamics.

Where do you live, city driving millage takes a hit, With that little difference there are many variables, short drives, cargo weight, number of passengers. Best I can do is 22 with a manual and that is on the open road soon as I get any where near traffic I'm back to the upper teens.

I don't know what mystical conditions they test theses trucks, but the best I've gotten is 18.5~19.

    all tore up already
Obviously the air dam that directs air effects aerodynamics and fuel economy... just like lifting it does, adding roof racks etc

I wouldn't worry about it man, TRD Sports with the air dam removed are so freaking good looking it's worth it.

That right there! My old ferd focus 5 speed manual got way better MPG than the window sticker said it would, 6 speed manual Taco ...... no. I have 1900 miles on the Taco so it probably hasn't settled into a real pattern yet. But from what I've seen so far I'm not expecting to even match the window sticker estimate.

Toyota’s stated MPGs are best case scenario. Threatening the dealership with trash talk on TW because you’re getting a couple mpgs less than the highest it says on the window sticker is naive and I’m sure the service dept. at your dealership had a good laugh making fun of you once you left. The sticker can’t take into account your driving style, the speed you choose to go, elevation changes for the road you’re on, how windy it is and whether you’re driving into the wind or with it, etc… Staying under 65 mph, as opposed to driving 70+ over a full tank of gas can easily be a 2-3 MPG difference right there. I learned to pay attention to that little fuel economy bar while I’m driving… half way is only 15 mpgs, so I try to keep that bar at about 2/3 (20 mpgs) or higher whenever I can. Usually that means cruising at about 65 on the freeway instead of 70 or 75.

You can go 70 if you want. What I do is make my way up to say, 70, and then I lock my foot against the panel right next to the pedal so the gas pedal will stay at the same level where I would be doing 70 on a flat part of the road. Keep your foot there, you might speed up to 75 downhill, and slow down to 65 uphill, but really.... just keep your foot at the same level, your transmission will settle on the highest gear and you just watch your gpm go up.

Did it every day in my 4cyl, and more than a few times on my father-in-laws limited.
