My daughter has a 2012 Civic Hybrid. A couple of years ago it started to fail to start and kill the 12volt battery. The Honda service department that she uses decided that the entire Hybrid battery pack was defective. They replaced it under warranty, so it ended up not costing her anything.

About a year later I read that Honda had discovered that there was a component issue with the controller for the battery system. I forget the details, but thought that there was a recall issued for the repair. Maybe just a TSB or whatever Honda calls it.

She hasn't had a problem since it was replaced.

That said and not a comment on your post, we are 20 or more years away from being able to go to EVs. Currently there is neither the supply of Lithium available, nor is the electric grid strong enough to support the charging stations. And of course the electricity to charge the batteries comes overwhelmingly from fossil fueled power plants.

Look at the rolling black outs in Europe and the west coast of the US. We can't even service current demand let alone the demand that having no ICE powered vehicles would bring.

Then there are the fires. Once a Lithium battery powered vehicle catches fire it is impossible to extinguish. If you doubt that, call your local fire department and talk to the fire prevention officer.

Perhaps the word "study" is too strong. "Calculation" is more apt, and it's something anyone can do. You don't exactly need a doctoral thesis to compare resource consumption between two consumer products.

We dont need no galt damn coal powered, lectric vehicles!

In short, say no to electric vehicles. Toyota still knows hybrids are more usable and profitable in every way.

    Toyota, will be fine.

If you say so, Rock, I believe that you believe it. It's an environmental 'calculation' that anyone can do.

Or, or, hear me out - you could go and do some searching on your own and find the facts out for yourself.

I'll get my facts from you, you seem well versed by a variety of institutions and have assured me that those institutions gained nothing from either doing the studies or publishing their results. I say, "No need to inquire further".

100+ years of ICE motor refinement and research and the motors are still effectively heat generators that also happen to move the wheels. It's laughably sad how much potential energy is wasted as heat from an ICE motor.... Imagine defending this objectively shitty antiquated technology. I wonder if the same people were scared of computers and Y2K? The Gubmit tracking us with these new fangled cell phones!

9 pages and no one mentioned hydrogen as fuel of the future? EVs are step in right direction but ideally downsize the battery and supplement it with a hydrogen fuel cell or keep the ICE's redesigned to run off hydrogen so they can be classified as zero emission.

Same! I think they’re perfect for people who have long commutes and pile on a ton of miles. Plus they’ve been around for a long time whether people realize it or not. I wouldnt even consider an electric vehicle.
