Replaced my 27f battery last week. Neglected corrosion on posts and 4.5 years old so I figured it was due anyway. Truck seems to be fine however I am only seeing 14.2 volts running. Is this normal for a 2nd gen. Most of my vehicles for the past 20 years have charged at 14.6 volts. Wondering if it is time to put a new alternator in my tool box. At 15 years old and a little over 85k miles I would think my stock alternator has plenty of life left in it. I do need to replace the stock serpentine belt. They did not charge me a core for my old battery so I topped off the low cell and charged it up. Seems to be holding 12.6 volts fine after I charged it 2 days ago. I know that doesn't mean it could pass a load test.

Thanks. I figured I am just a little paranoid. Stock alternator in the 2012 Taco lasted to nearly 160k miles. I have replaced the battery in 2 vehicles, in the last 3 weeks, as well as our other 2 vehicles in the last couple of months. I can count on one hand the times I needed a voltmeter on a Toyota over the past 48+ years of driving. I would need a calculator for the times I used a meter on our Ford and GM vehicles.

I installed a volt meter and a hud that sits on the column with temp displays just so I can see how the voltage varies as the battery and alternator age and to preempt any problems caused by engine heating that doesn’t result in a boil over. By then the damage is done. Neither are used daily in the sense that tach or speedo are but both get observed daily.

My head unit has the torque app, showing rpm, speed, temps and voltage, but I removed the obd scan device, to prevent battery drain, because it always stays lit with the key off.

Thanks man. Looks like it just pushed the rear bumper sideways flush with the bedside and broke the tail light. Guy was 6” from hitting bedside and that would’ve majorly sucked

Finally found some true 8 inch halogen lights that arent 300 a peice. Old procomp 130s. Found on ebay and still over paid for them. Exactly what I wanted though. Discontinued but luckily they came with the covers. Even the covers are impossible to find so I hope i dont break one.

Also color matched my mazulla rear bumper.
