I built drawers and sleep in my shortbed under the camper shell. It's cramped and unless you are short it won't be all that fun, but it affords luxuries like being able to pick up and move fast, and having the smallest footprint. It isn't for everyone. Link in my signature to the drawer project if you want to check it out, and there is a DIY platform/drawer megathread linked there too for ideas.

Depending how much you want to camp or travel you can do this a million different ways. It's fun stuff to think about!

So it's not a drawer system, but I built a sleeping platform and storage cubbies with my dad last year for the 80 series.

Overall it was a cool experience and I learned a number of things, including what I ultimately want to do with the space, now that I've spent time with/in it. Keep in mind that building something will cost less money, but cost more in terms of your time.

Somewhere I had mentioned that I'm planning on taking a (n off-) road trip when I retire next year, camping out of my truck. I had mentioned that I had looked at the TopperEzLift setup and also the possibility of an RTT on my topper. Well, thanks to TW, I may have found a usable option...and it isn't very expensive. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09WV2DR1H?smid=A30VMTUSOLD1LH&th=1

That, with a bed platform, may do the trick. Now, will the bed be full width or half?

I've seen write ups but man yours is great! Definitely planted more seeds and gave me more to think about. That's the other attractive thing about building it. I think we're all in agreement that the journey is usually better than the destination. Especially when it pays dividends right away.

I like the idea of those type of tents, was considering doing a DAC brand tent on mine at one point but it wouldve limited the roof rack abilities. If you don't plan on doing a rack they are pretty neat.

For bed width, if it's just you then I say do 1/2 or 2/3 width since you have a longbed. Gives you the ability to use it like a couch on days with inclement weather or places to put your boots and stuff when rolling into bed at night. I don't have that and it would be super nice to have it.

Thanks! Got my ideas from other write-ups, videos, and lots of reading. I did the write-up to share back the same info. 100% agree the journey and fun of doing the project is quite enjoyable. Best mod I've done yet is the platform and drawers, I use it more than anything else besides the aftermarket stereo.

That's where I was going with my thoughts. Am also thinking about solar generation but am not sure I will be stationary long enough to need it or just use an isolated 2nd battery for cooler power.

Solar is nice and I have plans in my build for it but not yet. Good to think about, but deciding what you can do first about DC charging is more important in my opinion. I'm a fan of lithium but will admin I'm probably biased since I have one.

I do have my fridge and DC charger for sale if you're looking, just saying...:D

I need to win the freakin' lottery!

This is exactly the same thing I'm working on now. Doing a 1/2 width and make it 2 pieces, so I can stack the rear half on the front half. Also I want it to be easily removable. Making it 2 pieces it will be easy to store in the garage when not needed.

Just get one of the cascadia4x4 hood panels and then you don’t have to worry about power

I've looked at this also, very interesting. I already have a black vinyl piece on my hood but mounting on my cap could be an option.

BAMF. There was a thread in the vendor's section that mentioned a knockdown kit (bolt on), trying to gauge interest. I replied but everything was on hold as UPS f&$ked up the first couple of orders they shipped and they were trying to find a work-around. When I messaged Jerry earlier this week to see if they had come up with something, he replied they were looking for a Guinea Pig (my words) to test their new shipping/packing. Of course I said "sign me up". :spending: What else could I do?!

At least the spending list is getting shorter.:goingcrazy:

    I beg to differ,
    Spend money on mods ,
    Go offroad :mudding:
Spend more money to fix shit
    Or
    Get ideas from other people
    And then.
    :spending:

After all that you get to know the UPS and FedEx drivers by name and next thing you know they name their kids after you and invite you to birthday parties.

I'm sure them and Amazon know my address by heart! I'm almost never home when things are delivered, except for weekends. Told my son he should make a move on the nice young lady that delivers here for Amazon, he sees her enough. :anonymous:

If he gets her bad side, your packages might end up in a ditch.
