When I was putting on a lot of miles, I had a Yaris for work travel and a Frontier to live a little. If I was to have that do over, the Yaris would have been a hybrid. But the Yaris was very good to my wallet.

I’m definitely not buying any EV or hybrid vehicles until they are VERY proven. We (especially Toyota) have ICE technology pretty much perfected. Are we really going to throw away over a hundred years of research and development and perfecting on engines? Yes we will run out of fossil fuels eventually, but we need to use the resources at our disposal while gradually easing into something more sustainable. I believe that Toyota is onto something great with the idea of hydrogen burning ICE in future vehicles. We get to keep proven and reliable engines while using a more sustainable fuel. We just have to make hydrogen readily available in future. Let’s spend money researching that opposed to researching EV technology!

You’ve got to be kidding me. You really think EVs are more reliable than a Toyota engine? What kind of booger sugar are you snorting? Just look at all the teslas blowing up and running people over. Don’t see any Toyotas doing that now do you?

That’s not a true statement unfortunately. Although EV fires are much harder to extinguish than an ICE vehicle they catch on fire at statistically lower rates. You can just as easily say that Toyotas have the frame rust out or the fuel pump fail on the freeway creating dangerous situations.

a quick google search of "Toyota Fire Recall" brings up enough info to dispute this assertion and Toyota currently doesn't offer an autonomous mode that I'm aware of so yeah

Ok, y’all go and buy y’all’s EV trucks then; let me know how that’s working out for you in 15-20 years

Already done it and it’s better than any of my Tacomas in every way. I won’t keep it for 15-20 years though so I’m no help there.

Find me 3 instances where a Toyota tacoma just randomly burst into flames. I’ll wait. And in the meantime, here’s a table depicting some “Tesla fires”

my point is they have no longevity compared to traditional Tacomas. Most of us are NOT rich and can’t afford a new truck every few years. Speaking from common man here.

It’s an easily verifiable statement that EVs are statistically less likely to catch fire, no one said Tacomas are randomly bursting into flame. Do some basic research.

This is true since EV trucks have been in production for just over a year. No need to be rich though, my EV truck cost less than many ICE trucks. Those prices will continue to decrease as more models enter production and the demand driven price markups fall off.
