Agree they won't come for your ICE, but government has other tools at their disposal such as registration fees and gas tax which both can be leveraged to discourage continued use of existing ICE vehicles.

Not saying this will happen but same as government can give tax credits to encourage purchase of EV vehicles, they can also levy taxes to discourage the alternative.

I'd rather see the discontinuation of auto racing instead of the implementation of an electric racing class.

Racing automobiles isn't a necessity, if fossil fuels are too bad for the environment. The planet can't sustain life as we know it. Might as well ban professional automotive racing as a whole. It's not like going electric is going to clean the air or conserve resources, when those resources are used for something as frivolous as racing.

Think of all the rubber that would be saved if there was no racing.

I'm sorry I chose to have a normal Saturday evening instead of sitting here to watch OP Quixote tilt against EVs.

I'm guessing a Tesla shat on his rug and kicked his dog or something.

what about F1 developing a 100% sustainable fuel for 2026 ? That would allow you to hug your ICE truck a bit longer

I don't think EV racing would be that interesting for the spectators. May as well watch RC racing, or someone playing a race car video game.

I'm not even a pro ICE advocate, but there are a lot of things that could be eliminated from society that use fossil fuels, or pollute. Before the average citizen is forced into driving something that does not have an ICE.

Any class of racing that wants to promote sustainability is silly. Most people don't use the amount of tires in a life time, that a single team uses in a single race.

Let racing be racing, the green environmental movement can be it's own thing. Green is just industry controlling the narative of environmentalism.

On that note, I have nothing agaist a sustainable fuel source.

    Disagree on several points.

What's the difference between watching gassers and watching electrics go around in circles? Electrics would actually bring something new, with lower CoGs and harder acceleration, I bet they would rip through the hairpins. Nobody is implying that you're paying admission to get a morality lecture. That's a bit of a strange argument to make, and misleading from the point of electric racing.

Racing has a side benefit aside from entertaining the unwashed masses, and that's the trickle down technology factor. There's a bit of cross traffic between race engineers and production engineers - what was yesterday's experimental engine is today's mass assembly.

But in reality, companies sponsor races to put butts in seats and make them watch their favorite brand destroy the competing brand. It's a three hour advertisement that everyone knowingly participates in. That's the real point of racing, and it's only natural that electrics want in on the game.

BTW, "green" power plants are one of my specialties, my lab works on a lot of applications for our waste burner customers.

The journalist got the mechanics and chemistry completely wrong (temperature has nothing to do with it), but the end result is technically correct - those types of furnaces don't produce significant air pollutants.

If you want the mechanics of how that really works, I could sum it up, but most people get glazed looks and nod off when I go into that sciencey stuff. :cookiemonster:

I prefer ICE racing too, but I don't want to see any racing sport disappear. Well, except maybe NASCAR. That's been sucky since the Winston Cup Era ended in the early 2000s. As far as RC, I've owned dozens of nitro and electric. I prefer nitro, but the aftermarket parts aren't there anymore and not many manufacturers still make them. Best option is to buy a kit and piece it together whether you choose nitro or electric. I'm wondering what will happen to AMA Supercross as well. Electric dirt bikes exist, but it's just not the same.

Electric is just not the same for somethings. They make electric snow machines now but I’d miss the scream of a two stroke and coming back from a long day riding reeking of two stroke smoke exhaust.

I still enjoy my CR250R, but the amount of technology in the new 4 stroke bikes is pretty amazing. The old 2 smoke bikes just can't compete. They're sure fun though.

That sounds like a win to me

plenty of people, including myself, greatly prefer not to hear some 2 stroke getting flogged a mile away when we’re trying to enjoy the outdoors.
