All of the shift points (up and down) are adjustable. Each time we do an update, it seems that increasing the upshift points yields better MPG and power. That is why we have them set this way. 2000rpm is the "sweet spot"--good MPGs and good power.
Some people like to lug around in a high gear at 1200-1500rpm. For those people, we make custom tune files. Everyone likes something different, but we set the tune at the optimal shift points for our 45+ test trucks.

Thank You again Dave. I held off updating to the pro 9.0 because I love the pro xt. It was perfect for me. It was awesome when we drove 5t miles round trip to Indiana. I thought it would be next to impossible to improve on the kdmax pro-xt . Boy was I wrong. After reading raving reviews on the 9.0, I just bit the bullet and updated. All I can say is BOTH YOU GUyS @PapaRee and @TWTaco are the best. I’m in cloud nine right now. Cloud 9.0 . I never thought it would be possible to improve on something I already found to be perfect. Whatever algorithms you did on this, you guys got it. Smoothest shifting /linear power / improved butt Dyno . Transition between 5 and 6th is almost absent. It’s so smooth. I love this. Mpg gain is a plus too although too early to tell but it’s there. Thanks a lot . Can’t wait to see my wife’s reaction when she drives this .

I just wanted to give another update. MPG’s are staying up about 2.5 since the tune. Went from 18.6 to roughly 21.1 or so. That’s mixed driving. Shifting is so much better still. I went with the normal throttle and it’s a little jumpy for me, but I drive slow.

Probably a beginner question here, but….is a KDMAX tune adaptable if I install it first and THEN introduce mods like exhaust, tires, etc?

It is. But I always tell people to get it re flashed after adding mods just for a fresh learning/settling period. It is free and I would do it if it’s convenient to get back to the person who tunes you. But, it is not required

I have v9 with light throttle and it does the same thing. On 40-45 mph roads it just wont go into 5th. Like you said not 49 but 50 is where it shifts

Talk to your tuner. Depending on terrain and preference this is adjustable. There is already a file sub version made to address this specific shifting need.

Great review . I also commend the 5/6 upshift or down shift . It's super smooth to the point of being almost unrecognizable. At times 6 to 4 downshift can be smooth to at times

Try sport Ive put thousands of miles on all throttle settings and recently put my stock cat back on minus rear cat delete and the tune improved removing my aftermarket cat back . I used to run lite with aftermarket cat back , why it's worked great together. Sport is more controllable in my experience.

Trevor came in looking for the KDMAX Touch for his 2011 2ndGen Sport this morning we got him updated and flashed with Pro9.0. After his test drive he had that big "KDMAX SMILE :D" on his face.
It was good meeting you Trevor. Enjoy the Pro-9.0

It shifts at 48 for me (by OBDII). Rpms, in my case, are at 2000. Sport version.
You may drop shift points, but be aware that in 5th tc will lock almost immediately and cause 200 rpms drop. Depends on the terrain, you may start experiencing tc locking/unlocking and downshift to 4th.
Edit: BTW, the version of the tune does affect shift points. Normal has a long 3rd for me, but Sport is just about right. Also, Lite and Normal have a long pedal travel for a downshift to 5th on inclines. Sport is right on money for me.

It seems to me like we have a lot of tune variations floating around. You need to live very close to your tuner to get exactly what suits. And the tuner has to have time to adjust your tune. Not all of us have that luxury. But keep in mind, any version of this tune, is better than stock.

Gonna have MN FrozenTaco23 Install the 9.0 this coming week on my '10 4.0 6spd manual. Really looking forward to it. Hoping for a better throttle response, reduced rev-hang, and more power and octane learning if available on 2nd gens.

We offer proven core variations at the time of tuning, some of us even regularly travel to make it easy to sync up with owners, and we offer remote tuning options. These are great options for any owner not near a tuning resource or someone who cannot reasonably sync up....and all part of what you get from the KDMAX Pro tuning group.

I’ve tried 9.0 with all throttle settings. I’ve tried it with modified shift points so that it will up shift sooner (45 mph for instance instead of at 50 mph and also at lower speeds) than the stock 9.0 tune so far.
I thought I was in love with that tune, but after reading some more comments here and the reasoning for the 9.0 “normal” shift points I decided to go back to sport and the way it originally was made.
I went on a trip to pick up some new puppies yesterday that was about 115 miles or so each way. Highway driving at up to 85, traffic jams because of heavy snow, using 4x4 about 80% of the time and a lot of stop and go driving for about 30 miles each way through some very steep, hilly town roads.
I filled the tank two days before and drove to work and back which is a 10 mile commute twice each way. I also let the truck warm up those two days with the remote start. Before I left for that trip, my tank average said 16.2 mpg.
So, leaving home with that tank average to do this trip with the original shift points of 9.0 and the sport setting, this is what I ended up with for the tank average when I got home. Very happy.
