Yea the Land Cruisers tend to just keep chugging along so enthusiasts like us end up having to do all the deferred maintenance/repairs.

It's deferred maintenance when I'm lazy right?

    What Zane said.

My 3 biggest projects before this LC were way more intensive.

A Firebird Espirit that got an Olds 400, and full resto mod (minus paint). Had that for years and hell even paid someone to weld in new floor boards and trunk.

An RX7 (FD, not the cheap ricer kids FC that people buy). Except this one was more bought not built cause I didn't put much DIY myself with the exception of suspension, intercooler and whatnot. Did the non-sequential mod to the twin turbos only later to go single turbo and V mount intercooler.

Last one which I still have is my gutted 383 stroker C4 Corvette. Partially done by me, minus motor, but has a yank stall and fully built tranny.

Had many other cars before but really, the Land Cruiser gets mentioned cause its my current and only project.

I'm currently deferring all four shocks, new sway links, a window track kit, and a top end overhaul on my LC

Why the top end overhaul; just to fix leaking valve stem seals, or is it seeping coolant?

Yea none of theirs those things would leave you stranded anyway. It takes a lot for them to stop moving.

I'm gonna fix all the coolant and oil leaks, definitely do the valve shims. Gonna remove the PAIR system and reroute the coolant bypass for a cleaner engine bay

Ugh..my window on the driver side sometimes doesn't move up which I know for sure it's the track or guides it rides up on.

Easy to get in there but one of those "I don't wanna do it" kind of things :bananadead:

One of my Corvettes (not the one mentioned) had a unique ICM issue where it ran great but once fully warmed up, would kill the car. Wouldn't start at all (no spark).

Was so annoying cause I remember diagnosing it at my work's parking lot (I had just left work and got it towed there that night) and I didn't have fuel pressure when the pump primed.

So I ended up replacing said fuel pressure regulator, got fuel, and then figured out after it wouldn't start that my ICM was bad after getting it tested.

Easy fix, but I was doing this during multiple "small breaks" cause I was working that day as well.

This is a common GM 80/90s issue with their computer modules. They overheat, if you put it in the freezer it would start back up instantly haha. Shitty components.

Oddly enough out of all my LT1/LT4 motors only this one had an ICM go out.

But yeah they have that aluminum heatsink on top which makes you say "really? The fins are 4 inches apart between each other" :bananadead:

Dude she's become way more attached than she was before.

Bronx stopped barking soon as you said hi to him, but holy shit those few seconds before that were loud.

But yeah @Ozark_RegCab many of us have already owned projects that were way more intense than say any Tacoma, 4Runner, or Land Cruiser discussed here.

@Speedytech7 and I had our discussions on Z31's as we've both had our project Z cars and I even had a Z32 as well.

Think when we say we need to do this or that to our vehicles, it's more out of "no time or don't want to" and a lot less to do with difficulty.

The Land Cruiser, 4Runner, and Tacoma have all been by far the easiest vehicles to work on ever.

That seems to be the hardest part of working on vehicles: actually getting around to it.

It's funny too cause I'm sure many of us have a story to tell about why we have certain tools.

For instance, I never use crow's feet wrenches but I own a set and have only used them once.

Had them for years too, and still do.

Bought them and used them when I installed a much larger turbo in a Focus ST I used to have.

    Old turbo -

    New turbo -

    20150603_125040.jpg

    20150707_194052.jpg

Had E85 tune, meth injection, big ass CPE intercooler, short shift kit, and more.

Was tuned by one of the best tuners in the Mazdaspeed world too, Justin at Freektune.

Wasn't too far from 400bhp either and that's a FWD car.

Had my plate still and gave it to @BartMaster1234 since he likes collecting them.

    @Speedytech7
    @Wulf

You two own many tools; what's a tool set you bought and only used once? And for what job?

Yea certain jobs in the 80 series are like that: you need a 54 mm socket, front main cheater bar, bushing presses, etc. I didn’t wanna buy those tools for one job then have them collect dust.
