I don't want to see racing go away, but if it's down to I can't buy an ICE vehicle or get rid of racing? Well it's going to be racing, same with major league sports, and all the positives that come with it like racing.

The argument that driving an ICE vehicle isn't sustainable for planet, there are alot of things that provide no positive impact to the environment that I'd rather see go, before giving up the choice to purchase an ICE vehicle.

If sacrifice and hard choices are the name of the game, I'll sacrifice and make those choices no matter how unpopular those choices might be. I'd rather have the right to purchase a reliable, affordable, and convenient mode of transportation. Over watching racing, or a pedestrian sporting event.

 

I'd just cobble something together to keep enjoying my hobby whether it's a hot rod, go kart, ect. Might even start a moonshine distillery to fuel them up.

 

Yeaaaaaaaah. The noise appeal got lost when I got into mountain bikes. I just don’t need it or appreciate it.

F1 is not EV racing , you're confusing that with FE

F1 currently runs a 1.6L V6 turbo hybrid that is making 1000bhp and is the most thermally efficient ICE there is . That is achieved through the competitive "arms race" of the sport to be the best .

while I agree that there are overtly wasteful practices in racing , especially if you consider the logistics of an F1 season in particular , that series is addressing that issue with a push to be carbon neutral by 2030 .

Having a test bed like F1 for manufacturers could be argued to either be a benefit to road car development or a net detriment to the environment but removal of racing as a whole is not going to offset the greenhouse gas emissions of the rest of the vehicles on the road in the world . That needs a global approach to reducing greenhouse gasses

 

Like there is soon to be synthetic aircraft fuel. Hydrogen freight trains, EV boats, EV motorcycles. It really is a global effort and constantly improving.

 

I just want to know how in his calculation , after 200K miles an EV costs you another $10-20K but the ICE truck accrues no additional cost to run 200K miles , like the gas , oil etc was free all that time

 

You’re not wrong, there’s a definite time and place for both things. Most of the places I would take my sleds to don’t have any hikers because you can’t get there without a sled or many days of hiking. When I go hike and want absolute solitude I go to wilderness areas or national parks which don’t allow motorized access. If I’m just out hiking in a national forest then it is a price to pay so that more people can enjoy the public outdoors land.

 

Globally there are just too many people in cars, and that number is going to continue to grow.

Let's say all ICE goes electric, or if people all of a sudden stopped driving. Agriculture is the 2nd leading cause of greenhouse gasses, that would be the next thing that needs to go.

There's always a crisis, and an industry to fight that crisis whether it's a real crisis or not. What ever it is, it never goes away.

 

The wear items on EV's seem to be tires and suspension parts. Far cry from the maintenance required for an ICE vehicle. I won't miss all the maintenance at all.

 

I could possibly drive one of those Canoo cabover pickups, or a conventional compact EV pickups. The seating position needs to be truck like, I hate being behind the wheel of a car in traffic. I also want an EV that drives like a truck.

Fullsize electric trucks don't make sense, and so far that don't make for great trucks.
