Thanks. It’s actually my customers design. He sells them. So you know how brass knuckles used to be cool. Now everybody wants an individual knuckle that is shaped like something. It’s the big EDC craze.

I got something like that in one of those subscription boxes a while back. I think it had a bottle opener built into the ring, but I have no idea where it currently is to check.

Hey guys..been a minute. Been busy with things lol. Question. Im looking at picking up an 81 gmc k3500 and went to look at it today. When testing the 4wd out i noticed it will not hit 4 lo with the engine running truck stopped. Guy tried to tell me thats how they all are.. i disagreed. ALL the rigs ive had with an np 205 would shift with the engine running.. truck has sb, th400/np205. What could be causing this?

    Was the transmission in neutral?

Also, watching a video quick, it looks like some GMs need to be rolling a few MPH to go into low.

Does it grind or feel blocked? Grinding is often from pausing in neutral or the idle speed being to high perhaps.

Foot firm on brake, truck in neutral you should be able to zip from 2wd right across neutral to 4 low. Try putting it in park.
If it seems blocked try rolling just slightly, transmission in neutral of course. ;)

With the engine running trans in neutral foot on brake it was a no go. Everything seems normal otherwise and it shifted to 4 hi no prblem. Drove on the hwy fine in 2 hi trans felt strong. But at a stop no matter how long i waited it would not shift to 4 lo in park or neutral. Fun fact, i have a dodge with a 205 in it and it shifts fine with the engine running. The guy tried to tell me "all his 205s are like that, have to shut the engine down to shift 4 lo"....sheesh im no pro mechanic bit wasnt born yesterday. Had several rigs with a 205 and never had an issue with engine running.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
It has been so long Things might have changed .

    The last NP-205 case I had was in my 76 K-20 .

At that time The shift linkage was external.

I could see where the linkage was worn or out of Adjustment just enough it would not go in Low Range with the engine running. Just a thought.

I never had any 4x4 The engine needed to be shutoff to get into low Range.

Good morning manly transfer case shifting men :hattip:

As long as low range works the transfer case is probably fine and the issue is with the linkage.
The only time I have ever had to shut one off to shift is when I paused too long in neutral.
