That and the ones I’ve seen here have bigger, better looking wheels and tires. The stock tires look way too small for the big bold body.

Up graded wheels and tires do make the Tundra look better. But they have their negatives mpgs, and wheel bearings probably some other things will also wear faster. Most fullsize trucks look funny on the OEM rollers. The domestic manufactures do a better job in this department.

The stock wheel and tire combo looks fine on the F-150 tremor which still has a conservative offset. Most of the HD trucks don't look too bad even in work truck trim with small diameter steel weels and tires, even against the exaggerated sheet metal.

It's the exaggerated sheet metal I'm not fond of.

It’s definitely overdone on the Tundra. Can’t wait to see the new Tacoma not that it matters. My 2021 just turned 24k miles.

Can we skip V8 and move to V12 with microwave and coffee maker in the back??? I am thankful they didn't put l4 turbo to satisfy EPA for the gas mileage.

Anyone think it would be smart to wait until the 4th gen is out to buy a 3rd gen?

I feel like that’s what makes “sense,” but then again are you really saving anything with inflation vs opportunity cost/etc?

Na, just get what you need and want now. Maybe the first year of a new model year would be avoidable tho.

I was just thinking that 3rd gens could dip in price a little when 4ths come out. I still want a 3rd.

The new Gen might possibly draw more attention to all Tacoma's and drive the price up. Older Ford Rangers went up in value in 2019 when the new ones came out.

That would help with the relatively poor side impact protection the current arrangement provides, but a narrow door would be wildly impractical for the people who actually use access cabs. (Dogs, tools, guns, backpacks, more tools, tarps, beverage cooler, tow ropes, snatch blocks, booster packs, maybe a few more tools...)

I wouldn't mind if the access cabs went back to being an extended cab. I'm not going to use the rear seats, and would prefer them not to be there. I'm sure the clam shell door provides easier access to the rear of the cab, but I could get buy with out the door. I wonder if there was no rear door, that the side impact rating would be higher.

Were 2nd gens always access cabs or was there any years that didn't have the clamshell door?

1st Gen 2004 was the last extended cab with no rear opening doors.

Yeah I thought access cab was a 2nd gen thing, couldn't recall if that started in 05 or later on. I never seen a 2nd gen access cab that didn't have a rear door.

Seems like there was a manufacturer that introduced a clamshell on their extended cab midsize on the same generation were there wasn't one before.

I think some small extended cabs may have even had only one clamshell door originally. For some reason l am thinking an S10 or Ranger came that way, or l may be mistaken too.

The Ranger had that in the 90s.

Maybe the door was only on one side. I also think it was Ranger or S10. Did Ranger ever get a clamshell door, I thought they did but now I think they always had the solid extended cab. I also thought 2nd gen S10 didn't always have the clamshell and later it was added.

Given the odds on bet is for the Gen 4 models to be automatic only, for those of us with manual transmissions there are pretty good odds our resale value with go up.

The two most notable, all-new, off-road vehicles launched in the last few years both come with manual transmissions. New Ford Bronco and Jeep Gladiator. I don’t get the paranoia that the MTs will be gone for the ‘new’ Tacoma.

Not sure I'd go so far as "paranoia", but given the entirely new platform, drivetrain included, I would be surprised if a manual gearbox was an option for the non-hybrid models.

The 4th gen appears to be the least offroad Tacoma ever. Not that I expect the new gen, in stock form to be drastically less capable OR than the previous gens OR. I doubt if the new truck will be as easily modifiable for OR use, I'm talking about adding manual transfer cases and rock crawling mods.

I wouldn't be surprised if the manual goes away. With the direction the Tacoma is going, Toyota isn't going to abandon the OR oriented market entirely as that's what sells the Tacoma.

Toyota did discontinue the FJ in most markets, they have also tried to get rid of the 4Runner, and I'm not entirely convinced that they won't after the 5th gen is no longer produced.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they kept the manual option.
