Well went to get my smog done and got directed to a Star station for smog. unsure if it’s a random or what. we did hook it up and that’s what it stated.

anyone have a good shop in the Bay Area that knows Toyotas or performance cars that would be good about saying if they would pass it or not. I know I’ll have to get a new pulley because mine says pulley boys all over it. FPR mod swap and revert my tundra throttle body. hopefully I don’t have to deal with intake. It’s TRD but I have heard they may give me a hard time for the SAIS being relocated.

I can’t imagine modding a R32! It sounds unbelievable expensive these days. And I have to ask how can you have an r32 and an automatic tacoma?!

Star station smogs are random selections, yes. Because you are modded to the point where you don't care about visual inspection (I told you to stay as incognito as possible for this reason Rob!) You probably just earned yourself an automatic failure for tampered "systems" unless you put your stuff back to stock.

SAI shouldn't be an issue as far as relocation goes so that's the good news.

Got the truck back together. New Engine tensioner was definitely a pita and tedious to get swapped in. But I was a little lazy and worked around things. Unbolted and move the Alternator and AC Compressor out of the way. Just held out of the way with wire. Pulley wrap mod seems to be working well.. thanks @BillDaCat8 All belts went on no problem. The new Steeda tensioner does take up some more room and gets close to the fan clutch, but seems to be just fine. Getting a 1/2” ratchet into the Steeda requires an extension, which then put the ratchet too close to the fan clutch to get out after the tensioner and belt were in place. Had to loosen the 4 bolts for the fan to get enough room to get the ratchet out. A different ratchet combo/setup would probably work without having to do that. Engine runs much smoother and quieter with all the new bearings now obviously. Got some trips planned very soon so we'll see how it does.

It wasn’t a fail and it was a familiar smog. When he connected and ran the plates we never even got to the smog test. I never got my notice so prob a random or they flagged it last time. Who knows. my engine bay besides that pulley boys looks almost just like yours @12TRDTacoma

As long as SAIS is fine in think it should be okay. I just need to swap a couple items but who knows seems notes on GVWR and using a Dyno. Not sure how I get past that.

Would the cam gears cause any issues?

No they won't be of issue as they are internal and cannot be seen so they can't fail you for that.

Yeah but they have no way of measuring pulley sizes so they can't fail them even if they are aftermarket.

Sounds good. I only they haven’t not come up with a new way to check tunes or they say it makes more HP than it should. I think my main is that stupid pulley boys pulley. I’m going to order and ask for a blank one.

Yah I’m not worried about that but it clearly says 2.8 on it. I’ll get one that’s blank and run with that.

Oh shoot, does it? Why don't you just pull off the pulley and sand the face of it until the 2.8 and any other markings are gone and then you paint it black?

How would they know what stock pulley size is? And why would that even make a difference in smog?

    ITS NOT APPROVED.
Mainly, unless it goes through expensive testing, it’s not approved to change OEM setups.

The paper work attached to the carb number states the 3.0" pulley size. That would be modifying emissions. Instant fail. If the smog tech is paying attention.

If worried about it, just get the URD stealth pulley with the faked size stamp, then add the UV dye paint mark like OEM.

Yah for now I at least need a blank one from pulleyboys. Mine has shit written all over. No getting past that. once I have that squared away and swap back a couple things (throttle body and FPR mod) I’ll give it a go. considering STAR is supposed to be stricter that’s my only worry.

Is your TB really that notably different than OE?
