    @Norilsk .

I got over the denial stage and am ordering up parts now. I don't have the reroute and saw the right cat to Y pipe gasket is $50. WTF? The left one is a reasonable $15. So, I am wondering: Can I get the two mid-pipes with the rear cats out while still joined to the Y pipe?

If so, that would be killer.

    Thanks!

Is this what you plan on taking out?

you can, it’ll be just heavy, why not just to reuse the exhaust gaskets?

    Perfect. Thanks!

    Weight is NBD.

I've heard that the crush-type gaskets can leak if reused. Of course, that might be more of an issue with aftermarket stuff. I don't mind the upstream gaskets, just that senseless $50 one. Haha!

    Here is my report.

Started at about 9a and finished just after 5p. I was only able to sneak in about four beers because it was all hustle.

@Norilsk . I get what you were saying about the breathers and completely misunderstood at the time. I thought the breathers under the hood were a combo of the gear box, T case, and front axle. I spent too much time disconnecting the gearbox breathers before pulling it only to find what you were talking about. Kinda weird. But, I had no time or will power to do anything about it at that point. They can be seen at the back of the bell housing in the 1st pic below.

The TOB coming out didn't seem ruined, so I'm going to save it to swap in later.:rofl:

Nah! I intend to pull it apart and see the condition of the actual bearing.

Took about 4hrs to get the MT out and it felt like it took no time to get it back in. Although the different length 14mm bolts threw me the fuck off. Probably lost an hour trying to figure out why the short ones were not catching the threads and the 17mm bolt wouldn't 'align' in the holes. A friend arrived for the installation and we both thought that somehow the thing was clocked a bit. Too damn funny. Yeah. There are guide pins between the engine and bell housing. Just some cornfusion.

That was the only hitch other than a bit of air in the clutch when done.

You can definitely slip out the cats and Y pipe together to save a lot of dosh on new gaskets.

It also seems cruel that the motor and trans were dropped on the frame and plugged in before the cab. So much so, that it seems insane that there is no main disconnect for the harness instead of having to deal with removing and installing all those little brackets. That was the worst part of the job other than the top two 17mm bolts. Needed a full charge on my impact to break 'em and there was no fucking way of checking the torque on installation. I had over 18in of two 1/2in extensions, a 3/8in extension, a 1/2 to 3/8in reducer, and 3/8 to 1/2 adapter, and the joint. That stole a ton of impact torque, and my torque wrench couldn't break them.

Big shout out to the HF impact joints. They work more like CVs than universals and did the hard lifting:

Sorry, but no clutch pic. It came out framed in on the suspension. LoL!

    PXL_20230129_205140022.NIGHT.jpg

I think the rust on that plate is sort conclusive that the TOB saw some water at some point:

Sorry for the potato pic, but the coolant pipes was looking great, thankfully:

Thanks! It was. A first for me on the automotive side. The weather on Saturday was so much nicer, but I was tied up cutting away carbon fiber. Friggin' cold yesterday.

It drives good and quiet. With fresh lube on all the contact points, it is much smoother also.

The engagement point moved closer to normal this morning, so the air is working its way out. It would be nice to not have to bleed it again. We'll see.

Congrats on tacking care of it! Next time it’ll be easier. I do agree that not having main disconnect is a masochist design, but we all know how kinky Toyota engineers are…

You should try pulling the wiring harness out of a Nissan/Renault Pathfinder. Good. Fucking. Lord.

Most certainly. Much less guesswork. Still surprised how bad the SM is for this work.

They do like tight places.

That is nightmare fuel. I'd need a week just to figure out a way to document it.

Took me two to get everything out, sorted, figure out what needed to be replaced (besides the entire CVT unit) and then put back together.

Granted, I was the newb in the shop, so my tool selection and familiarity with some things was much less than it is now, but still....

I'm just glad a new Nissan dealership opened up about a hot dog's throw away. Now we can send those Renault shitboxes to them. :D

If I wasn't doing it continuously (kill me now), I would never get it down.

After seeing this job, I can only imagine how some shops might butcher the work. So many little details that someone could say fuck it and still ask for $1k. Haha!
