Update to the saga. I've been pretty quiet about it just to keep any ammo out of Toyota's hands. Not to say they troll any forums but best to keep tight lips until resolution is made.

Legends agreed to "good will" warranty the brake shoes, parking brake hardware and shoe hardware kit. But said that they won't cover the backing plate which is what is causing the damage in the first place as the rivet the shoe rests against when brakes are applied is bent and will just bend the new shoes in a few weeks. Service manager at Legends got fired (not sure if that was my fault or not) so had to start all over with the new manager. He said that corporate wont warranty the backing plate and that would be my responsibility. I then called corp to figure out why they denied the warranty claim for the backing plate and they said the dealer told them it didn't need to be replaced. So I was in a huge game of mom vs. dad. Previous service manager at Legends quoted $650 for new backing plate and labor to install. I then spoke with my case manager at headquarters and she said that since I'm getting the run around from both sides, she would just write me a check for the $650 so I can get everything fixed. SWEET! Toyota has come through and we are good to go. Called Legends back to authorize the backing plate and all of the sudden the price went up to $1,009 according to the new service manager. I asked what changed and he told me "our techs determine how much each job charges" so the tech working on your truck wants more money to do the job than originally quoted. So back to HQ I go to up the refund check to a grand. They said that they need the quote from the dealer showing what changed from the first quote I gave them. Called dealer back and they send me a quote but this time it was $1,157. I asked why it changed again and he said that he forgot to add tax to the labor. I don't know about KS but in MO, you can't tax service labor so I thought that was interesting. Anyway, send that quote to HQ and they are going to give me as much as they can for the job. So I might be out a couple hundred bucks after all is said and done but at least everything will be fixed and I'll be back on the road again. I do have a pretty sweet 22 Tundra loaner in the mean time though.

TLDR: Dealer service departments are shade AF. Toyota HQ has deep pockets.

So Legends is full of crooks because that's absolutely not how dealerships work. The techs don't determine the price is at all.

Good to know though, we'll keep everyone we can away from them. Got a dealership like that really close to where I live and man I hate seeing thier badging on vehicles around me

Just sucks because their sales department is TOP NOTCH! But I haven't found a service department worth a damn near me yet.

I have been pretty happy at Olathe Toyota for my service. Just got a TRD Pro with 6MT from them last week.

I am surprised by your experience with Legends. I have never had cars serviced there but I did buy my 23 Tundra there and you are correct, the sales department was a pleasure to deal with. Between Molle, Crown, Legends and Olathe we have some pretty good Toyota dealers around us. I have bought cars from all four in the last 2-3 years and each was great. Hendricks and Jay Wolfe on the other hand, the less said the better.

Although Hendricks Lexus is also top notch. Much better experience than supposed American Luxury at Cable Dahmer.

The Jay Wolfe in town here are known to be a bit sleazy with their service.

Welp SAIS valve decided it's stuck now. Looking at the Hewitt Delete. Sadly the recall ended for me about 5k miles ago...
