getting code 171....where to start

cranks,no start though. driving started acting like out of fuel and then died, now just crank and no go...suggestions?

 

What kind of truck..year ,mileage...auto or manual

 

Fuel system: Fuel pump, related fuses, relay, FP regulator... (assuming you have verified you have fuel in the tank). My first move would be to get a rubber mallet or deadblow hammer and lay a bit of a beating on the tank. That can often 'shock' a pump which has gone dead, back into life, at least for a brief period, and that will confirm the pump. If it doesn't happen it definitely doesn't rule out the pump however.

Does it have Spark...Fuel pressure?

 

spark, but wont you get a mis fire code while your driving?dont no just asking??and it didnt stuble like a misfire, choked like it was getting no gas?

 

Ive seen a few pumps go without any codes...unless its direct injection ... So its not getting Fuel?

Well,you cant check pressure then....pull the fuel line at the engine and put it in bottle and see if any fuel comes out..
