We had hurricane Fiona hit September 23 and we were tasked first with siding with power restoration for 21 days straight, then about 8 weeks of danger tree work in residential areas. We had a lot of new saws bought. The 500i cut like a dream but absolutely guzzled fuel. I can say with our large sample size of saws, Stihl had no to a few very minor issues that we fixed ourselves in the field. Husky on the other hand….not so much

Husky 395xp drinks bar oil! I have been using the Husqvarna bar oil but decided to cheap out on the lowes pro select oil, we shall see how it goes. Also found the last piece I needed for my Alaskan mill in a job site dumpster!

I buy the Husky oil by the gallon.
I used to use Stihl bar oil. But it just didn’t want to flow if it was real cold out.
I believe they make a cold climate formula, but my local Stihl dealer doesn’t stock it.

    I like Stihl saws.
But the Husky has the longest bar.

    I run a Husqvarna 460, 455, and 450
    Stihl MS270 and MS180
Along with a Poulan that I use when I get into dirty stuff. Like cutting out stumps and such.

they make heavy, medium and light bar oils.
I’ve found the Stihl bar oil isn’t as stringy as other brands. Not sure if that’s good or bad.

For the money, the Timber Wolf is hard to beat.
I’ve run one, I was impressed.
The little 2511t isn’t a slouch either. It’s a wicked little topper saw.

The Stihl oil is used was in the orange jug.
The last time I used it (about 5 years ago) it was super stringy in the cold. (30f and below)
It took forever to pour into the saw. Maybe I got a bad batch?

That’s the same stuff I have. At those temps it is stringy, just in the summer it is not. I usually use medium in warmer weather and light in anything near freezing and under.

We have the Total brand (5L) at work and it’s red and very very stringy, almost impossible to pour and not have a thin string go on side of saw after pouring.

$25-$31 for 4L up here. An American gallon is 3.78L so basically same capacity.

glad I don’t pay for it at work.

i bought the saw used <5 tanks run, and put the barkbox on before running it stock so I don't have a reference point. For one thing it is loud but thats to be expected.

Mostly run the 90cc saws now as the box wedge will make quick work of the large rounds

Currently running an Echo CS590. Love this chainsaw. Slowly working my way through a tree dumped off by a local arborist (thank you Chipdrop).

Also recently inherited my late father's Stihl MS180C. I need to get it on the bench for a good cleaning.
