    Brand new short blocks are still easy to get from Toyota.

    Junkyard pullout is another option.

    You could also take it to a machine shop to be rebuilt.

    I'm the conservative type, so if it was me, I'd keep having the 4.0 1GR back in there, whether that's fixing the original or swapping for another.
    I think we're all interested; what symptom(s) did you experience when the engine gave out?

    Hope your brother can fix what's there.
