I am struggling between this and a MB Sprinter conversion. I need (want for emergency) 4x4 to get to my camp, but this offers SOOOO much more space and creature comforts. GL!

Fucking wire transfer took 6 hours so I didnt get to take it home today. Short answer is Im going to order the parts right away and then find a 99-04 D60 to start stripping. When I pick it up I need to drive it straight to a truck scale so I can get F/R weights to be able to order the springs. Alcan has an ~8 week lead time so approximately April 1 I hope to be finishing the 4x4 swap. This will give me time for all the interior and non-drivetrain mods as well. Also depends on @snowsk8air2 schedule and how much room he has in the driveway

Camp is in NY, so the diesel motor on that trip would be nice.

Why would the diesel be good? Im guessing you mean for the fuel mileage because it certainly isnt about the power. This one has the newer 6.8 V10 which is good for 305hp 420 torks and gets 12mpg everywhere. I could also tow my K5 or Tacoma behind it. The newer trucks with the 7.3 Godzilla V8 make 430/475. (I wish mine had this motor) And the Sprinter engines depending on year are either 170/295 or 211/332 and get 14-17mpg. Ill take 30% more torque off idle and +50% or more power in exchange for slightly better fuel economy. Plus this bitch has a 50 gallon tank so who cares? Its only money right? :spending:

Yeah…only thinking economy. 2,600 miles one way. No towing.

Your point is why I can’t make up my mind! Damn you for being right and reasonable!

Dont get me wrong, I understand the appeal of the sprinters but after spending some time in them I wasnt happy with the interior space or layouts that I saw, unless getting into the class C motorhomes, in which case you are negating the fuel mileage advantage and so Id rather have an Econoline based vehicle. I want real 4x4 capability while also being able to park in a normal spot and have a bathroom. Ive been researching this decision for a long time now. There are a couple guys out there doing solid axles under sprinters but you wind up with essentially the same thing as the Econoline vehicles(in terms of size/comfort/performance/fuel economy) but for more than twice the money. Ill save that extra cash for funding my adventures, including the cost of gas, versus doing it in a sprinter just to do it in a sprinter. Plus I cant leave out 'merica for 'merica's sake. Also dealer network, parts availability, cost of parts, known reliability etc.

:anonymous: Well sit on down and let me tell you a story of the great banning. there is a reason we are on bs thread version 42.0. There was a day when all havoc broke loose across the whole site. It was a bunch of drunk guys raising hell everywhere. Then the mods came out of the skies and killed everyone. They were not pleased with the behavior. It was a fun show to watch tho!
