Can I order just the factory overload leaf spring?

I got my lift kit installed by a local shop with an Icon AAL 1.5" but with the 2 inch lift up front on my 6112s, it looks like my truck is leveled. I prefer a slight rake but I realized when the shop gave me my old shocks back, they forgot my overload leaf. In case they don't have it anymore, is it possible to order just the overload instead of a whole new factory leaf pack? I wanted to put the over load back in and see if I can get slightly more height on the rear with it on.

 

If the truck rides fine, why not put in a 1” lift block or something?

 

Would a block on the rear affect off roading? All I've ever heard about was bad things with spacer lifts, especially when off roading but that's for the front. Is a spacer for the rear different?

Block isn’t going to change the ride and also isn’t the same thing as a spacer lift. Well I guess it is but not for this discussion.

Adding a 1/2” block you probably won’t even notice. Outside of the looks of course.

 

Don’t know if dealer does, but leaf packs show up all the time on Craigslist and I bet you can buy a complete used pack for less than dealer can sell an overload leaf. The overload leaf w gives a 1:1 lift equal to the thickness of the overload leaf, same as a block since it stacks to bottom of the spring pack at same location you would put a block. At least you get the overload protection by adding the overload leaf.

Blocks don’t affect ride quality. They just lift the back end. You can get axle wrap issues with taller blocks, but I’ve never heard that reported with a 1” block. I believe the OEM factory Toyota lift that they include on the trail-series Tacomas have a 1” block from factory.

I have a 1” block under my leaf pack and have experienced no down-side.

I'll keep my eyes on CL if it does come to that. I like the 6112/5160s on my truck, but I wish told the shop to leave the over load in there. Guess I got too excited for the lift to be installed and it slipped my mind, lmao.

How long have you had your block on?

I've been googling some stuff related to my issue and I just saw a comment on some thread here on TW about an AAL on another AAL and didn't even think that was possible. Have people doubled up on AALs before?

Edit: Nvm, I think I just mis-read the comment. I think they were saying to get "another AAL" as in a different set, not stack it on top of another. It's getting late, lol.

 

A few years now. I have an add-a-leaf to help with the weight of my canopy and the ride was/is great, but after several months the rear end sagged more than I would like. My truck ended up level, but since the ride was great, I did not want to mess with the leaf packs any more. I added the 1” block to restore the factory 1” rake, and have been happy ever since.

I put the block in myself. It wasn’t that hard to do.

Is it the factory overload leaf that you took off when you installed your AAL or did your AAL come with its own overload?

I would suggest the 1" block over the overload spring myself. Easier to do and will not affect ride quality any. You don't have to tear apart the leaf pack again.

Lift blocks have been used in leaf spring vehicles for decades with zero issues. Some of the old Ford stuff came factory with a 4 inch block.

With the Tacoma, I wouldn't go over a 1.5" block. Going over that will increase spring windup from axle torque.

 

I was going back and forth on a block instead of the overload. If it really doesn't affect ride quality or off roading capabilities then I may just go that route. You have any suggestions for a 1/2 or 1 inch block?

The block you use will depend on the rake you want. There is no lift ratio like on the front. Whatever block you put in will give you that lift. I am running 1" Eibach blocks in the rear of my truck with stock springs.
