The ones that do not have visible relays are solid state and are all covered in potting compound. Therefor if one solid state relay goes out it can not be replaced so you just have a dead switch. Where with the one you have or the Auxbeam 6 gang you can swap out a relay if it goes bad. I searched and searched for a 8 gang panel with 5 pin relays but could not find one anywhere. I really like the idea of just being able to swap out a relay but I ended up going with the solid state 8 gang.

I did get mine installed last weekend and am pretty happy with it. Again, I know this is an Auxbeam thread but just incase anybody wants an 8 gang panel with replaceable relays, I'll post my pictures and a link to it. I've only had it installed for a week so I can't comment on longevity but so far, its nice.

Damn, I wished I could have found that when I bought mine. I got mine over a year ago and have yet to install it lol. Might just sell it and buy the one you have.

 

It's not just an Auxbeam thread! Anything related to the 6 or 8 gang switches is fine. It does say "Auxbeam/Amazon"

Do it! There is one thing that I don't like about it. The backlight will turn off after 2 minutes if you don't have any switches active. Then the whole unit will turn off shortly after if nothing has been active. So at night, it can be annoying. I contacted the company to see if you can change that but you can't. It's for "battery conservation".

When you say the whole unit turns off, can you elaborate? It sounds like the switch panel turns off. How do you turn it back on in order to turn one of the switches on? Sounds like it would make everything a two step process.

 

Yes, the switch panel lights turn off after 2 minutes of zero activity, and then x minutes after the backlight turns off and there is still zero activity, the panel will turn off as well to "conserve battery". You just press the power button at the very top right of the unit to turn it back on.

Let me clarify, if a switch is in use it's not gonna turn off.

 

It's actually a good option! That way you can have it wired directly to the battery so you don't need to have the ignition turned on (if you have it wired that way).
I wish Auxbeam had that option.
Do you need to power the panel on to hit a switch? Or when you hit a switch, does it turn the panel and device on?

 

I do indeed have mine wired so it can be used with the truck off. Nice to use lights without it running if needed.

you do have to power the unit on before any of the switches will turn on.

 

I need some guidance on the installation of my Auxbeam 8 gang switch unit. My first question is where exactly do you run the wire through the firewall? I see people run it through the factory wire loom, but do you have to cut the boot to make an additional hole? Any photos of wire routing would be awesome . My second question is, what fuse at the main fuse box did you use to tie in the add a fuse? I would prefer using the 12v outlet fuse, but really not sure which is best. It all depends where you are wanting to mount your panel.

This may help some of you out. I been reading on web where people have problems with their Auxbeam out of the box. If you have this type inline fuze. Check this screw. Mine was loose.

 

+1...I had issues with the backlight flickering and the unit turning off and resolved it by tightening the fise screws.

 

Finished fabricating my Auxbeam engine bay mount.
1/8" 3003 aluminum bent using a vise brake.

I wanted enough space to remove the fuse box covers without having to remove the bracket so I put the bolts on the bottom of the bracket which turned out to be a major pain to install because I didn't leave enough space to get a socket around the bolts. If I ever have to remove it I will swap the bolts out for hex head bolts instead.

I'm really thinking about getting one of the Auxbeam 8 gang panels for my truck and was just wondering what the long-term reviews are like from those that have had them for a while now. I see reviews on Amazon saying people have had issues with the whole panel dying or a few of the circuits not working and was wondering if anyone here has experienced that?

 

I bought one in 2019. Switch had a fault a couple of months ago. I did like how it worked. I just received a replacement I bought . Hopefully will last longer than the first one. The price was right with the $40 coupon. Don't need the app silliness.

Yeah that's the one I've been looking at getting! Don't need the app and can't justify the cost of a Switchpros or Spod when I wouldn't use all the features. I'm also thinking about the 6 gang panel just because it has relays and if one of those goes bad I can replace it myself

 

Only probably I've ever had with either of my panels is the backlight not working in the 8 gang. Haven't tried to fix it or anything, and mine didn't come from auxbeam with so, just a great value one basically
