Or adopt the 5 minutes rule.

If it can be done in 5 minutes or less.. just do it.

One Christmas day the threaded section of the kitchen sink drain crumbled away, I was about 13 at the time and "fixed" it with a funnel made out of a gallon jug attached with an old piece of radiator hose.

About 25 years later my mother had a plumber in to replace the old galvanized pipes, he looks under the sink and says "that's interesting"...

Well, elections have not been held and I would expect a full slate of nominees for President with many valid claims to the title. Then again, it is more of a default position than an elected position. OK, Prez, all you!

Several years after my dad died, my mom's kitchen tap needed replacing. Working under the sink was nasty because there was only one cupboard door with the accompanying width. After I shoehorned my way thru the tap I tried it and the drain leaked ( I had noticed it was wet when I started). I followed the leak to that thread tailpiece and found that years earlier my dad had "rebuilt" it with silicone. o_O Much of the pipe underneath was now gone and about a 3" section was nothing but silicone. The strainer assembly was installed before my parents bought the house some 45 years earlier. I ended up having to cut the retaining nut off with a Dremel to replace the strainer assembly. It was a ton of fun working under there!

Yea, that was me replacing my bathroom faucet. Faucet was easy, but replacing the pop-up drain... well...

It’s definitely fine, when I brought the mill home I was excited to get it working and it became temporarily permanent. There is no cable management option with this vfd, I’ll have to mount a junction box underneath and run wire between. When I get time. Someday.

For years I had problems with the sink drain getting clogged up with a gel like substance - it would adhere to the vertical pipe (plastic). I would remove the pipe, take it out doors and clear it with a whipping motion. This occurred every 3 months or so.

The pop up assembly started leaking so I replaced it with a commercial style with no pop up -- the gelling issue went away and hasn't returned in about 10 years. The only part I replaced was the drain tailpiece. :notsure:

Status Update: Dean is taking a break from TW. A few of us got ahold of him in the past couple days and he is doing well, just a lot on his plate.

Wonder if it's toothpaste causing the gel on the plastic? Ours does the same thing.
