Don't get me wrong, it was a "good" car, just not for me. It rode terribly over the city streets (even on downsized wheels), probably worse than the Corvette did. The stiffness-to-fun ratio just wasn't there. And it had about zero steering/shifter feel whatsoever. Objectively it was excellent-- good MPG, tons of room inside for the size of the thing, incredibly capable in the snow, mainly problem free-- but it just always left me wanting more involvement.

That's what I've heard about the 2015+ wrx/sti's, a complete departure from why you'd buy one. I used to daily an 04 and yeah the ride was stiff but you could feel everything in the wheel/pedals/shifter, was like driving a go kart lol

Nice. How did you get started doing that? I've always wanted to. A - always been obsessed with cars and B - love a chance to write.

In undergrad I started a blog on Blogger to write about ATV, truck, auto news, and whatever car-related stuff was on my mind. At the time I was obsessed with the new wave of automotive media like Jalopnik, Autoblog, Garage419, and so on. I had a dream of working at one of the big magazines (Motor Trend, C&D, R&T, Automobile, etc.) and wanted to dip my foot in to see if my love for writing translated to a love for writing about my love for cars/trucks/4x4s/ATVs/etc. I asked every automotive journalist I could via email and/or Facebook message how to get where they are, and the answer was always "Start writing and keep writing" or "Find something you're extremely passionate about and become an expert on it."

Eventually when the big magazine goal didn't work out I started pitching my work to some of the other outlets that had popped up. I just kept sending emails and messages and hoped that someone would give me a chance. Eventually the door opened at Hooniverse and I've been contributing there ever since. It's the "home" for my writing, if that makes sense. This helped me work my way into the other outlets as well as going to NYIAS on media day. That first Hooniverse piece went live in March of 2016 and since then I've contributed to Everyday Driver (link is to my favorite of the things I've written for them as they unfortunately don't have an author page for me to link to), ATVRider, and UTVDriver. Possibly even better than the writing has been starting and hosting a podcast (Off the Road Again Podcast), since the people we talk to are some that I never imagined I'd ever have a conversation with, let alone call friends.

TL;DR - Start writing about something you love, spam outlets you like with your work, rinse/repeat

That's an amazing story line my friend. I can see that is truly your passion and career rolled into one. Thanks for adding the links etc as well.

Doug ! Can't believe you had him on your pod cast. That guy is amazing. Super OCD and nuts like the rest of us when it comes to cars and details.

Going to start following some of your content.

    Cheers

    Thanks guys! We appreciate it!

Thank you, it's certainly been a journey! Doug is great, he's been on the show a few times now. Easily one of my favorite people to talk to that we've had on thus far. Super humble and you'd never know he has the following he does based on his personality. Plus he owns a bunch of awesome 4x4s!

    Thanks buddy!

Think the under-37s thing is to pass inspection but then people just throw back on their regular tires. Could be wrong, but just a hunch.

The best! 4WD 24/7 is no doubt up there for top 4x4 channel, if not the best full stop. Dan Grec mentioned Gunshot when we were talking to him, too. Sounds like the obstacle has seen some stuff and changed a bit.

Also really enjoying Graham's Off Grid show he's doing
